I’m having such a good day today. I slept in a little, and then worked on some flyers for a fundraiser that the youth will be doing in October. They look great, and hopefully they will catch people’s attention. After the staff meeting at my office, I drove out to my aunt’s house. She had promised to give me some transplants from her garden. I had never been to her house before, and it was nice getting the chance to spend a little time with her as she showed me around. The plants she gave me are so beautiful, and she promised me that they would grow very well in my shady backyard, and multiply like crazy. She also told me to come back anytime to take some of her ferns, which I hope to do soon.
I stopped by the farmer’s market on the way home to pick up a couple of things for dinner….I really just needed some tomatoes and garlic, but I picked up a couple of other things as well. I still managed to spend less than $5! I love the farmer’s market! For dinner I made squash casserole, roasted tomatoes with basil, broccoli, and chunky hashbrowns (I had some potatoes that I just had to use up). It was a little carb heavy, but I’m not really one to worry about that kind of thing, and it was all delicious. Besides, at least I’m eating vegetables! It was my first attempt at squash casserole and roasted tomatoes, so I was pretty pleased with myself. I really feel like I am becoming an alright cook. Later in the evening I had a craving for dessert–something homemade and delicious–so I made three little individual servings of berry-crisp for me, Ryan, and Taylor. From scratch! I really didn’t even use a recipe…just used my knowledge of what makes a crisp, a crisp! I’m so proud. =) It was really decadent with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream melting on top–we had just enough left in the freezer.
Things have been pretty quiet around here lately. I should be taking the time to get things done around the house, but I’m really worn out with all of that, and enjoying just kind of taking it easy. Things are semi-busy at work, and we’ve been in and out of town the last few weeks, so I’ve been using that as my excuse. Also, the weather was perfect and cool for awhile, but now it has heated back up again, and I can hardly bear to be outside in the humidity. Maybe this weekend I’ll finally get around to doing something…..or maybe I’ll just lay around instead. =)
sounds like a nice, productive day! I’m a pretty good cook myself, but I can’t do anything from scratch! that is impressive! I know how to follow a recipe, that’s about it 😛 It is so hot here too, by the way! You’re not anywhere near the path of Hurricane Rita, are you?
