Celebrating
Right now, things are good. Had a party last night to celebrate my birthday (which is tomorrow). It was small, but just what I wanted and needed….just some close friends. Two of my roommates from college came….I hadn’t seen them in about 9-10 months, so it was really great to catch up. We pulled out some old pictures and had a great time reminiscing. My mom bought me a fire-pit for my birthday, and made sure to get it early so we could use it at the party last night. It was so awesome sitting out on the deck, enjoying a fire on a cold night. My friend John made some homemade ice cream for the occasion….it was a little cold for ice cream, but it was so delicious–chocolate mint oreo!! We were up until almost 6:30 this morning, so it has been a lazy day of sleeping in and laying on the couch watching old movies all afternoon….."Can’t Buy Me Love" and "Sixteen Candles"….you gotta love it. =) Ryan left a little while ago to go get my birthday present–can’t wait to see what he comes up with. He’s not too creative, but I’m sure he’ll think of something nice.
Tomorrow I have to work all day, but I still think it will be a good day. The kids all know it’s my birthday, so I’m sure they’ll be extra nice to me. Also, tomorrow is Consecration Sunday at the church (the day when everyone makes their pledges for the next year), and we have a big lunch afterwards catered by the Varsity (an Atlanta institution). Hot dogs and onion rings are the perfect junk food to have on your birthday! After the lunch, I am taking the kids to do "drive-by-rakings." We just hop in the church vans with some rakes and yard bags, and go around surprising people and raking their yards. We usually try to go to the houses of older folks, or people that we know have been sick. Tomorrow, we’re going to do that, and then I am going to surprise them and end up at my house! None of them have been here before, so I know they’ll be excited. My mom offered to bake some cupcakes for me (aww…) so we’ll rake my yard and have birthday cupcakes….it should be fun. Also, it’s a great birthday gift to me, getting my yard raked!
Hopefully, I’ll wind up the day on the couch with Ryan, eating a good dinner and watching a new episode of "Grey’s Anatomy." I think it could be a wonderful birthday!
Happy Birthday!! that’s such a cool idea, about the drive-by rakings! The house I grew up in had tons of oak trees in the front and back yards, and raking leaves was always my LEAST favorite chore! I hated it! that’s nice that your kids are doing it for you 😛
