We had a really productive weekend.

It didn’t start off so hot.  I wanted to do something, but Ryan was in a funk.  I couldn’t ever figure out why he was in a bad mood (I don’t think he even knew), but he eventually got over it.  We didn’t really do anything, but we did go to bed at a normal hour instead of staying up really late like usual.  That was good, because then we got up around 9:30 or so on Saturday and had a nice long day together.  I got up and made blueberry pancakes, and then we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in bed.  We finally got up and got moving, and headed out to see a matinee of "Milk."  It was really awesome.  Although my uncle moved to San Francisco and hung out in the Castro around that time, I still knew almost nothing about that history.  We really enjoyed it a lot.

We stopped by the used bookstore/comic shop on the way home so Ryan could pick up a couple of things, and then we went home to clean.  Ryan tackled the kitchen and really went nuts on it (scrubbed down the cabinets and everything!).  I spent the afternoon putting away Christmas stuff and going through wedding gifts.  That was actually quite an undertaking.  Our extra room still isn’t clean, but I can breathe in there now. =)  Saturday night, our friend Will came over and we watched "Slumdog Millionaire."  Also really good, although the ending left something to be desired.

Ryan had to work yesterday, but I got up and kept working on the cleaning and organizing.  I cleaned out all of our tupperware and kitchen utensils and supplies, making bags to go to Goodwill or to give to other people (we have a ton of stuff to give away).  I reorganized some of our cabinets and kept working at putting wedding gifts away.  We are getting closer and closer to being back to normal!

After Ryan got home, we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to return some wedding gifts…a few things we just don’t need, and a couple things we’d like to have, but just don’t have room for.  They wanted to give me store credit, but I stood my ground and made them give us cash, because that is what is listed in their wedding registry policy (we had packing slips from the deliveries from BBB).  We already have gift cards and other store credit, and we just don’t need anymore!  It turned out great, because we ended up getting a little over $200 back!  With that we decided to go to IKEA and get two bedside tables that I had been looking at (right now we have inexpensive round tables with cloths on them…these have two shelves and a drawer, so we can store things in them).  They were only $40 and totally worth it.  Plus, Ryan had never been to IKEA before, so that was an experience for him!  He ended up putting the tables together last night while we watched the Golden Globes, and they are great!  I have to work late tonight, but I can’t wait to get home and get back to organizing our bedroom. =)

Yesterday, while I was cleaning earlier in the day, Nico started barking in the backyard.  When I stuck my head out to look, I saw black dog hanging out in our front yard.  She was actually more of a puppy, probably 4-5 months.  I had seen her around the neighborhood a couple of times last week on my way to work.  She was wearing a cheap plastic collar, but had no other ID.  Other than that, she wasn’t in bad shape.  I put Nico inside and put the puppy in the backyard to feed it.  I was trying to decide what to do (I didn’t want to call animal control, and none of the no-kill shelters are accepting animals).  There was also a good chance that she actually did belong to someone in our neighborhood (it’s not a great neighborhood…safe, but low SES).  Eventually, she started howling in the backyard and I ended up letting her out, thinking that she might head home if I wasn’t keeping her penned up.  Of course when Ryan got home, he said that he had seen her hanging around that morning too, so she was probably lost.

This morning when I went to leave for work, I saw her hanging around our neighbors garbage cans.  I put her in the backyard, and Ryan and I decided to leave her there for the day while we decide what to do.  He called a little while ago and said that he made some signs at work.  He also said that his manager said she might take her if we can’t find an owner.  In the meantime, it’s supposed to be below freezing outside tonight, so we have to be able to bring her inside, so he is going to take her to our vet today to get her checked out and get her a round of shots (and see if she has a microchip, although we’re guessing she doesn’t).  It’s not so much money, but it’s definitely not in our budget. Oh well.  I don’t know what else to do.  I’m just hoping we don’t end up deciding to keep this dog, because it is a puppy that needs a lot of training and is already chewing  up everything in sight. =)  I just don’t have the energy!

*Edit: Ryan got home and the dog was gone.  We’re figuring she jumped the fence, but we’re not going to sweat it.  If she comes back again, we’ll deal with that.  In the meantime, Ryan’s going to go ahead and take Nico for her annual shots, so at least she’s updated if we have her around the other dog.
