I had my first appointment last Friday. Honestly, it seemed kind of pointless, but I’m happy to do things the way the doctor wants! I basically just went in and peed in a cup so they could confirm my pregnancy (don’t they know I already did that at home – 3 times?!). Then I filled out some medical history forms and met briefly with the nurse practitioner, Giselle. She is the nurse practitioner that my friend Molly really disliked when she had her baby, but I thought she was okay…very businesslike, which I guess can be a bit of a turn-off to some. Luckily, the nurse that I was with before was very sweet and congratulated me, so it was fine and I still felt excited. =) I made an appointment for our first ultrasound on October 19th. Ryan is going to get off of work that day so he can come with me. By that time, we should be able to at least see the heartbeat and may even be able to hear it. Should be neat!
We told our parents last weekend and they were very excited as predicted. My mom cried when I told her…then when I was driving off I looked back and saw her dancing back into the house. It was really cute. I talked to my dad on the phone…we really got him with the whole "Happy Grandparent’s Day" thing. He was so surprised and said he was "just thrilled!" I was really happy about his reaction…even though I knew he would be excited, I wasn’t sure how it would be for him since my half-sister is only six years old! But he is really happy. Ha! When I talked to my step-mother on Friday night, she said that Emily "does not want to be an aunt, she wants to be a cousin." I told Amanda we could call her whatever she wanted, but that she might change her mind later…she also didn’t want to be a flower-girl, but changed her mind once she saw the dress! Amanda said that Emily is really excited that I am going to have a baby though…that she has been hoping I would have one. My dad said he thinks Emily thinks that cousins can play, but aunts can’t. She is too cute.
So far all of the friends we have told have been really excited for us. When we told our friends Jeff and Bethany, Jeff turned to Bethany and said "What did I tell you?!" Apparently he had seen me get up at church (I was feeling a little queasy and went to get some water). Guess I gave myself away! I’m sure that he is the only one who noticed though…he was standing at the back of the church to usher. and he has been anxiously awaiting our announcement for several months. =)
I’ve been feeling slightly less tired over the last few days, but that has been replaced with general ickiness. Not quite morning sickness, but a little nausea. Nothing sounds good to eat, so I am trying different things. On Saturday, the only thing I could imagine putting in my body was potato soup…sweet Ryan went to the store to get me some even though his football game was starting. I told him that I would go, but he insisted that I stay home since I wasn’t feeling well. It was so nice. I have been avoiding soda for the last couple of weeks, but yesterday I finally had to get some ginger ale.
School is closed today because we have had so much rain and so many major streets and highways are flooded and impassable. I wish I had known before I got up and left for work this morning! I was so tired and it was really hard to get moving. Luckily I heard it on the radio before I tried to get on the interstate…I would have been there forever and I am feeling just as cruddy today. It’s nice to be at home on another rainy day!
🙂 so exciting! sorry, just a random noter here! xx

Awww that is soooooo cute that your mom actually did a dance as she went back into the house. My mom keeps saying how she cant wait for me to get pregnant and “its ok if you guys get pregnant before the wedding, don’t worry about it.” haha I hope you feel better!
