AIDS

I was just laying on the couch tryin to take a nap and had CNN on and heard something that made me wide awake and got up to watch. AIDS is not something I have ever concerned myself with, being a small town boy I never really worried about it, never cared about it, and I’ve never had any friends with it. It actually bothered me that AIDS was plastered all over gay magazines, AIDS drugs advertised in gay communities, and I usually skip over articles that have that word in it.

The scarey facts I just heard:

  • back in the 80’s when AIDS was first discovered and thought to be a “gay disease” over 50% of the gay population in New York City and San Francisco had AIDS. That number has dropped DRAMATICALLY with the gay movement on safe sex, the “war” against aids, and the new discoveries in drugs in the 90’s.
  • Doctors have just discovered, and this is scarey folks, a NEW STRAIN of AIDS has unleashed into the community. A strain of AIDS that is completely resistant to 3 out of 4 AIDS drugs and the 4th is still being tested. This strain of AIDS goes from HIV to full blow AIDS in a very short period of time and this is not a good thing.
  • To top this off, crystal meth has become quite popular in the gay community. Crystal meth makes for wonderful sex so I’ve heard, and is being glorified in the gay community. I have seen it, I’ve heard about it, hell I even tried it once amoung several other “club drugs” when I was in Atlanta a few years ago. Apparently gay men are taking crystal meth and having unprotected sex for days on end and becoming infected. This drug has now been introduced to the straight folks in the party crowd and is expected to make its way into schools next and younger kids.

A new tidal wave of AIDS infections is coming and it scares the hell out of me.

Depressing ain’t it? Good friend of mine is about to die from it.
