Last Train Home
After a v nice weekend, I had the train journey from hell yesterday.
The journey usually takes just over 2 hours on one, straight through train. I had checked online to confirm the times of my journey and was a bit peeved to see that I would have to get a rail replacement bus in the middle because of some maintenance isses on the line. Rather than waiting for the last train, which is my usual trick in order to eek out my weekend, I thought I better be sensible and get the second to last train. Good job I did…
Yesterday I set off at 5pm and didn’t get back to the town I live in till 10pm. The first train I got on took half an hour to get to the first stop (usually takes ten minutes) due to concerns over something on the line. The train continued on (when they confirmed there was no problem) for one further stop… when the train was cancelled because snow and rain was coming directly into the drivers cab giving him a rather icy shower! So (understandably I admit!) we all had to get off. We had to wait for 20 mins to get a train that would take us another stop.
* sighs*
When we got there, the bus that we were supposed to get as a rail replacement due to engineering hadn’t bothered to wait for us, so another considerable wait until a kindly bus driver took an unscheduled stop and let us on.
Nice warm bus jouney for 45 mins to our next destination…
We then had to wait for another hour ( because we missed that connection by literally 2 mins ) on the snowy wasteland that is a major train station in the midlands, to go on our final leg.
I befriended some poor sod who had, in his madness, decided it would be a good idea to come to the town I live in. I think he was regretting that within about 3 minutes of our arrival. Snowing, no taxis, no shops open, no where to wait… Luckily for both of us my housemate had come back from his travels early and came to collect me so he also agreed to take this poor lad to where he needed to go. Between us, we did our good deed for the week.
It would have to be the most freezing night of the year- I couldn’t believe it was snowing… needless to say, I was not really dressed for it and my favourite trainers got ruined in the snowy slush. Worryingly my feet had started to go a bit numb by the time I got indoors.
Apart from that, I had a rather lovely weekend snuggled under a duvet- playing computer games and watching films! I also ate everything I shouldn’t have and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Well, at least the weekend was nice! TAke care.

Bad train rides are the worst. (Though bad bus rides can be pretty awful, too.)
