It’s been a while!
Happy Birthday to Willy! What a super story to read on the main page. It has been ages since I wrote on here, about 10 months I think, not really much of a diarist these days I am ashamed to say. However, I thought I would take a peep and see what is happening in the world of OD!
First of all a little update… well, kind of a big update actually. I am now a married lady!
I got married in April this year and I have to say, it was the happiest day of my life. I feel incredibly blessed to have found someone as wonderful as my husband is, if ever one was to have a soulmate- well I believe I have found him. I don’t want to blow my own trumpet too much but I am really very happy indeed about it!
I think one of the reasons OD got a bit, well, pushed aside (kind of a shame really as I should have used it to kind of chart my progress with planning etc) was because we put a lot of thought and planning into the day. It wasn’t a very big affair but it turned out just how we had hoped. There was a great deal of family feeling throughout the preparation as my Aunty made my dress and also the bridesmaid dresses, my Ma made the cake and I put together… well, pretty much the rest of it lol Hubby was wonderful though and we made all our decisions about what we wanted together. I think some people make the mistake of thinking it is just the brides day… but it isn’t at all, it is the couples day and so it needs input from both parties to make it a day you both feel is special and unique to you. We were both very fortunate in that we have very supportive parents who helped us in all manner of ways but never being pushy and trying to press their ideas upon us. I think it was also nice in that although I always thought it would be wonderful to get married if the right person came along I never really had a very fixed picture in my head of the day the place etc, which meant we really were able to plan it together.
It was a very emotional day for me on all kinds of levels, but as many of you know, I lost my Dad 10 years ago and so I put a great deal of thought into elements he would have liked throughout the day, such as having traditional music before and after the ceremony and we even had a traditional ceilidh band play after the meal. We had the ceremony in a little castle in the NE of England, which was really super place to get married. I felt that it was very much like a fairytale as the day unfolded, despite my jingly nerves! We chose not to have the ceremony in a religious setting but settled for a spiritual place as a happy medium as my now husband is not really especially religious. ( It is very nice to know thought that a Reverend lady from where I grew up said that she will give us a blessing anytime in the future should we wish to have one…:o) ) We wrote our own vows and also did a reading to each other about what we feel love is and how we feel it has unfolded for each of us since we have found eachother… and somehow I managed to read it all without crying- hoorah! My Uncle, who is also my godfather, gave me away. He really was a wonderful supportive person to have by my side. I think it meant a lot to him that I asked him to do it and it certainly meant a lot to me that he agreed to help me.
I really wanted to insert a picture but I can’t figure out how to do it I’m afraid… useless with the old techy bit lol.
Congratulations to you and you husband… I am so glad you have found your soulmate… I was very happy to have a notefrom you, my old friend.. If I can figure out how to post pictures, you can… I’d love to see one…

My wife and I looked at all of the photos. We enjoyed them very much. The castle from a distance was quite impressive… We thought your cake was the best wedding cake we have ever seen.. of course, the kilts were something we don’t see around here very often..I couldn’t imagine wearing one myself…
