We the Marines in Iraq
Hey everyone! It’s me, your friendly neighborhood Donovan. (OK so friendly is the only one that works… none of you better be my neighbors or I’m going to hide!) I’m still in Iraq for now… but word has it that we are coming home soon. (Yay me!) I’m at JFOB (Joint Forward Operating Base) Jalibah… quite some ways south of Baghdad. No major action here… we only had 1 very minor attack… or so I heard… I believe it is just a rumor… I’m sure I would have known if someone was shooting… but who knows… it’s a pretty big place.
Anywho… it feels good to be online again… and I should be on more frequently, especially or then I’m back on ship heading back… hopefully i won’t be on Combat Cargo… which for those of you who do not know is a very big pain in the behind… sometimes working as much as 21 hours a day a few days in a row. If I’m not on that maybe I’ll have time to go to the gym and get a little lifting action going on.
I want everyone to give a big thanks to Anja, whom this diary probably won’t exsist anymore without her help, thanks Anja… I owe you about a million.
A lot of my friends were involved in the actual fighting in Iraq, so please pray for their families and them, for some of them won’t go back home, and others will be going home permanently disabled. I feel for the latter more, the dead feel no pain. The living live with it the rest of their lives.
I hope you all appreciate the sacrifices we made for this country, because someday it might be you out here on the battlefield, if not you maybe your son or daughter, niece or nephew. I’m glad I got a chance to serve my country like this, even though I only played a minimal part in this operation. I’m going to go home and be a hero, although I did nothing. The true heros aren’t even with us to see their glory.
I know you all think this is a boring entry, one I normally wouldn’t write, but you need to realize that 80% of the people here in Iraq don’t want to be here. But they fight because they have to. We aren’t fighting forour freedom, we are fighting so that each and everyone of you feel just a little bit safer, a little more secure in your homes. With less people like Saddam around, you feel less threatened. And until these modern terrors are gone, you will always have that little bit of insecurity. Always have that little fear when you get on that airplane, when you go into your office, when you stop by McDonalds to get a bite to eat. So next time you hear someone downgrading our military, you tell them that THEY are just afraid. And you tell them why.
I hope that you will all still write me at my mailing address… I believe Anja posted it in one of her previous entries in here. Once again thank you to all of you for your support throughout this affair, it was graciously accepted. And remember the heros of this war. Thank you all and God bless
America.
Love,
Your little war pawn,
Donovan
All of America is behind you.. god bless you guys.
