some ramblings on money
today in church our lesson was on finances. got me thinking a little.
we were told to be sure we have our finances in order and that we handle the bills together. jeff and i thought that was funny because i always do the bills. i’ll usually run down what i’ve taken care of when it’s done.. the rent is paid automatically so that’s no issue..
we were also told to not “cheat on each other” with our finances. which i thought was funny, because jeff and i basically never buy anything without the other knowing about it, and most of the time, standing right there as we buy it.
i used to have an account on mint, but stopped using it because i found the whole budgeting idea overwhelming. i HATE, HATE looking at our balance online. i nearly NEVER check it. i don’t keep running books of what we’ve used and what’s there. i have a general idea of where we are (basically, we have money, or we don’t) but i hate looking to see for sure.
i set up mint again today to see how it goes.. i have to overcome this fear of managing my money somehow. we usually get our bills in on time, so it’s not like i’m not paying them, i just hate to see our account go down, down, and lower.
what it looks like from mint so far is that we’ll have about $10 left over at the end of the month. um, how is that possible? i haven’t been budgeting at all and now that i am, we have $10 at the end of it all? how are we getting through the month if that’s all there is, then? oy!
hopefully i just over budgeted some of the stuff and there will be a little build up of extra money, and that $10 is just worse case scenario.
they also talked a lot about credit cards and things, and i nearly forgot those even exist. we paid all ours off (man, that sucked) and cut them up and haven’t had any since. it’s kind of nice that i don’t have to take those into account when doing all this.
that’s about it. i don’t know why i have such a huge aversion to looking in my account.. but i guess i’ll have to manage it. can’t wait until my job (supposedly) starts up again in a couple months, it’s nice to have that little extra bit to use for bills and things.
i have a headache and jace is sooo whiny tonight from having to get up early for church. thank goodness for coloring books and blue’s clues!

If you’ve been paying tithing, maybe that’s why you always do well every month? It came to mind when I was reading. Budgeting is a pain, but I do want to learn because I’m terrible with money. Always spend more than I have. 🙁 Although I am trying REALLY hard to be careful this time.

Tomatoes, onions & peppers? You’d starve at my house! Lol!

I’m glad I’m not the only adult who won’t eat tomatoes onions and peppers. That’s good that you don’t have credit cards. It can be so easy to get into trouble with them.

RYN: I’m glad I’m not the only one that has had awkward church cuddling dreams! lol. It’s okay about the tithing thing. I have a good habit of setting aside the money, but I always forget to actually turn it in. lol.

RYN: Someone actually said that to me the other day, seriously someone actually told me “God doesn’t love gays” I wanted to punch them in the face!
Warning Comment
RYN: Yes, it’s definitely the hormones! Ugh!

RYN: Thanks, but no thanks. We’re in winter at the moment and I LOVE winter, I actually hate summer :P. But I do love the beach, and I wouldn’t mind one hot day for the beach hehe
