Beware Ginger Danish Men!

Ive been able to see some films from the International Festival thats going on at the moment. I saw ‘Guy X’ on Monday night, it was a premiere, and Jason Biggs (from American Pie) was there, with the director and producer and so on. They came on stage first and introduced the film, and were there for a Q & A at the end, but I didnt stay because I didnt really like the film. It was an adaptation from a book, and it showed. The story was all over the place, and although Im sure the director and cast knew what they were doing, I found it awfully self-conciously "cool". it was all about half finished sentences and longing stares, twenty minute silences etc.

I did however, see a great Danish horror/thriller last night. It was called Murk, and it was brilliant. Its about a guy who’s sister kills herself on her wedding night. The main character cant accept what happened, so he tracks down the husband and finds that he has a habit of marrying women who commit suicide. I wont spoil the film, but its amazing. I think the fact it didnt have anyone famous in it helps you concentrate on the story. That and the sub-titles. Beautifully shot, with the outdoor settings and sets helping to give the film a claustrophobic paranoia and a very unsettling atmosphere. The lead actor was quite hot too. That helps. 😉

When we left the cinema a girl who works for a review website asked me to record a ten second review for her, on film, which may make it onto the website. A bit weird, but I did it for her anyway. Then we all came back to the flat and cooked a curry with all the trimmings, (naan breads, pakoras, bhajis, puppodums etc.) It was really tasty. Then we played cards and listened to music until late. It was a good day.
