The Real World Kicked Down My Door
Today I entered the full time working force. It’s nothing but this until retirement. It was a decent day. All the people there seem friendly enough. I’m working for an accounting firm in the auditing department. I got a laptop and my dual screen, a whole shitload of paperwork, a lesson on clocking every minute of my day on a timesheet, a free lunch, a cubicle, and a client that I start with next week. I want desperately to be back in the college scene but I know I’m ready for the working world. Working 830-530 isn’t ideal, but I knew what I was getting into when I took accounting as my major. My first job isn’t too far from my apartment so that’s a plus. I think it’s a little bit strange they hire you a year in advance, but it worked out well for me. The HR department is really friendly and approachable (as they should be). Four others started today…two from my college. They all seem cool except for one guy who really just annoyed me. He’s the type of person who likes to toot his own horn and have the attention. But I will rarely, if ever, work with any of them. The senior who took us out to lunch said she doesn’t think she was even in her office once the entire month of August. And it’s usually only one staff accountant to a job so I won’t see them a whole lot.
I had a housewarming party on Saturday. It was just my family but when you add it up that was 13 people. All my siblings and their significant others, my niece, my grandparents, and my parents. I made it a potluck so everyone brought food. It was nice to have them here. They all loved my apartment which made me happy. It is surprisingly big for a 22 year old just starting on her own. Speaking of, I had to call Comcast today because they overcharged me and I got my electric bill today and let me just say…this is ridiculous. Is 100 dollars a normal price for one girl with central air in a one bedroom apartment? My average daily temp was 77 degrees. God I can’t wait for my first paycheck.
I’m sure I have more to day but I’m exhausted and the dishwasher has to be emptied and refilled.

I just graduated from college in May, dabbled in the real world for a bit (had an office job…yuck!), quit and am interviewing for Americorps positions now instead. At least with accounting you have job postings that actually apply to you. My degree is in Philosophy… Anyway, I really wish I could go back to school, too! Oh, and a side note: I’m kindof freaking out because you have a STRONG resemblance to one of my best friends.
