[life]
I thought it was time to offer up a little update on life. Things are busy, and a little stressful (that seems to be my lot in life, though).
Work: I did ende up changing my schedule, but getting Mondays off proved to be impossible. So I have Tuesday and Wednesday off, leaving only one long day where I have work and class. And then I also have Sundays off, as the clinic is closed. Working Saturdays has been my least favorite thing, but I’m feeling much more zen during the week. And I’m seeing Greg more often! I can’t complain much about that.
I finally got the details on my promotion. Basically I’m responsible for inventory/supply ordering, making the schedule for the seven techs we have, tracking and approving vacation requests, managing our controlled substance inventory, ensuring compliance with rules/regulations in the clinic, participating in interviews/hiring decisions for techs, and other things as they arise. My raise was just $1 per hour, so less than I was hoping for. But every little bit counts, and I’m not going to scoff at getting more money! My new title is “Veterinary Technician Coordinator.”
Things are good there for the most part. We are starting to wind down a little from the height of summer business, and starting to fall into a routine with our two new techs.
School: Things are going pretty well with school. I’m enjoying it for the most part (although we are studing a lot of lab animal stuff right now which is a bit boring for me). We are also deep into anatomy and how organ systems work, which is very interesting. I’ve already learned quite a bit that I can apply at work to understand things better. I’m earning good grades and praise from the teachers, too, which makes me happy.
Home: Things at home are good, too. Like I mentioned, I’ve been seeing more of Greg with my new schedule. That is much appreciated! He is working on getting little projects done before winter (he built a new entry door for the crawlspace, did some trim work and painting in the bathroom, and has been caulking our windows).
I have been embracing cold-weather food, which makes both of us happy. We’ve transitioned from barbecues to hearty stews and steaming dinners. Comfort food at its best (and I’ve got two roasts in the freezer that I picked up on sale just waiting to be made). I’m trying to be excited for the changing season, and I’m doing ok with it. We have spent several nights curled up on the couch watching movies since we can’t be outside. It’s been nice. Plus, it’s football season and our home team is doing well (they are 5-1 as of this afternoon).
