written this afternoon
My mom is sitting in the chair next to me right now. We’re still in the hospital room but she’s moved from the bed she’s been confined to for the past 2 plus weeks to a normal chair for an hour. She’s smiling and joking and making mock threats at us when we tease her. Her hand is on my belly waiting for Mr. Maximillian to kick.
They finally, finally (!!!) took her off the ventilator this morning. There’s still a ways to go and we have to be cautious but she is FINALLY better.
The relief and happiness I feel is indescribable. Even up till last night we kept saying “if my/your mom gets better” instead of “when…”. It was still too serious to risk jinxing it, even though there was scads of hope and some important improvements.
This has been, easily, the scariest, and at times the most heartbreaking, few weeks of my life. But I think we’re finally at the beginning of the end.
I’ve got my mom back.
Great news!
