DePhoMo 6: “definition of beauty”

i’ve been on here a bit more than usual in the past few weeks. still haven’t got much to write about, or rather, the inclination to do so. every time i attempt an entry i bore myself silly. i’ve been reading loads of entries but i’m a terrible ODer and hardly ever note. i suck.

however! i am always, always in the mood for shooting and posting photos.

so i thought i’d give this December Photo Month a go. especially since the days are themed! nothing better than pairing a shot to a song, a theme, a quote, etc.

and though i’m behind, as this is already day 6, i’ll probably do late entries for days 1-5 later when i have a bit more time. till then…

Sunday, Day 6: “definition of beauty”

when Eric and i got married, we went the not-at-all traditional route. we’d been vaguely planning something small but lovely and not out of the ordinary.

but then my brother died and it was rough on all of us and the last thing we wanted was to have a wedding, the traditional sort, that would serve to be a more glaring reminder that one significant person would be missing.

so we gathered up 30 or 40 friends and family, went to Vegas and had an insanely fun weekend-long mini-holiday, with a quick wedding tossed in. and it was successful in all the ways that mattered.

one of the things i would have changed, though, was my dress. i decided to go with a red dress instead of a white one. it was VEGAS. i wanted fun, i wanted colorful, i wanted non-traditional.

so i had a red dress made, similar to a black cocktail dress i already owned.

my regret is not the color, it’s the fabric. i chose a beautiful bias-cut silk that did not photograph well. or rather, it did photograph well, but i looked more gigantic in the photos thanks to the shiny, bright material. however, i’ll take not loving the photos, of which there are few anyway, over something actually important going wrong.

a few weeks ago, i put the dress on for the first time since our wedding three years ago and frolicked on the grass amongst some autumn-y leaves. (there was a reason for this. i don’t normally don the wedding gown to run around outside!)

the two images i liked best are below.

my definition of beauty: happiness. wonderful memories. love.

and further: sunshine, bare feet, the beginning of fall, still being in love with the one you promised to love forever on that day.

I was just wondering if we’d ever see you around again. These are beautiful photos, and an even more beautiful sentiment.

I like both, even though they are very similar in subject. I am going to have a non-traditional dress too. Any tips for it so that it will photograph well?

I seriously cannot picture you looking “gigantic” in any way, shape or form. Lovely picture. Absolutely stunning.

i thought of you when i got married in Oct. 🙂
