My Wednesday Evening…
Yesterday Bobby IMed me at work and asked if we wanted to go to the Fox & Hound with Chris and Heather. I was having a rough day so I said "Yes, please! I need a beer!" so we made plans to meet them there at 6pm.
The brakes on Bobby’s Jeep had gone out earlier in the week so we’ve been carpooling to and from work, so I had the car and went to pick him up. I had IMed him when I was leaving and when he saw that I had logged off my computer he posted something on my Facebook wall (reveal at end of post). I don’t have Internet on my phone so I couldn’t see what he had posted.
When I got to his work he came out wearing his heavy winter coat. Since it’s Ohio the weather was about 35 degrees in the morning and 70 in the afternoon. I told him he didn’t need to wear it in the car because he’d overheat, so he took it off but kept it in the seat with him. I asked if we could run home so I could change out of work clothes (he’s allowed to wear jeans at work, but I was in business dress). He said we’d have time.
Once at my apartment I asked if he would take a look at my Internet connection because it had been lagging lately. I even opened my laptop and he said he’d look at it later, but we were almost late and he was hungry. So I changed and we headed to the Fox & Hound.
When we got there we didn’t see Chris or Heather’s cars so I commented that we must have beaten them there. I chose the corner booth which has a rounded booth and chairs on the other side of the round table. I declared that since we got there first Bobby and I should get the booth. He sat down to the right of me and suddenly he said he left his wallet out in the car in his coat pocket. I gave him the keys and sat there watching a rugby game and a thought went through my mind for about the millionth time this year: "What if he were about to propose?" But since it hadn’t happened yet this year I dismissed it because I didn’t want any disappointment to ruin a nice night out.
Bobby came back in with his coat and placed it on the chair across from me. He stood at my left and said "Can you do me a favor?" and motioned for me to scootch toward him. Our waitress came up and asked for our drink orders and we both got pints of Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat. Again he said "Can you do me a favor? Can you scootch over here?" and as he said that he reached into the pocket of his coat and pulled out a box. Then he got down on one knee as my hands flew up to my face to cover my mouth which was hanging open in shock. I said "Seriously?! Oh my gosh, you’re actually doing it?!"
"Almost 2 years ago we had our first date here. Now we’ve come full circle. Will you marry me?"
Of course I said yes!!! He got me the exact ring I had picked out back in August. We hugged and kissed and then he gave the all clear signal to the dozens of people who knew it was happening and were waiting on the result. Then our phones started ringing off the hook with well wishes.
It was perfect because it was *our* engagement! He even kept a journal in his Blackberry of different events regarding the ring–things such as "Ran into Megan’s stepsister at the mall while in the jewelry store, hope she doesn’t say anything!" in November and "Accidentally left out the ring paperwork where Megan could see it" in January. He even took my best friend along to help him ensure it was the exact ring I wanted and then had it special ordered because I wear such a small size (5.5).
I am a very happy girl!
The Facebook post said "You don’t know this but in about an hour and a half you’ll be engaged! Everyone say nice things to Megan but please no phone calls or texts until after 7pm (it’s a big surprise)!"
What a cute way to be proposed, too! Yay. 🙂
