My Anxiety > Triazolam

Last week I went in for my routine dental cleaning and they mentioned that I still have some pesky cavities to be filled. I was hoping that by the end of the appointment they would have forgotten, but the hygienist brought it back up. As soon as they mentioned it I began shaking at the thought of Novocaine injections. I asked if there may be a way to get a prescription for something to calm me down and they wrote a script for Halcion (triazolam).

Monday evening I took the first pill around 8:30pm and lay in bed waiting for it to kick in. According to my research its optimal effect would be to wipe my memory of the event (the appointment the next day), but I would appear lucid and be able to answer questions and breathe on my own. Around 9:15pm I texted Bobby to let him know that my phone felt really heavy, and shortly thereafter I passed out. The next morning I awoke feeling a bit slow, but still coherent.

Tuesday afternoon I got off work early and went home to take the second pill. I took it at 2:30pm and lay down on my couch waiting for it to kick in. I expected it to perform the same way and figured I’d be nice and asleep when Bobby came to pick me up at 3:00pm. I was not. In fact, I believe my anxiety was too great for the pill to overcome because I was completely lucid (if not a bit loopy) for the entire appointment and felt the first of the two Novocaine injections. Not fun. Plus, my blood pressure was pretty high. Whereas it’s normally 110/70 yesterday it was 147/88. Thankfully the injections were the worst parts and I was fine throughout the rest of the appointment. I never did fall asleep from the pill, but sat at home by myself feeling a bit slap happy. I’ve now reached the milestone of having my first two fillings. Yay.

Now I just have to figure out a way to get through 2 more fillings and the extraction of all 4 of my wisdom teeth. Definitely not looking forward to the latter…

Oh man, I’m sorry your having trouble with getting through your dental appointments. I find it weird they didn’t fill all 4 of your cavities at the same time. Can’t they just put you to sleep? Maybe you need a different dentist? :/
