THE LAST GOOD BYE
There you were in front of me, cigarette out your mouth reading my note on the yellow paper and I saw your face fall a little. The stereo played & we shared our last moments together knowing I would be leaving soon. There we were in the warm of the car as the wind howled & screamed outside & smoke filled this tiny space.
I wondered how I could be in this place again with you after all this time. And I wondered how I could leave you alone again. I could see you were upset & I was too. Here we were two people who knew eachother so well & then we were about to become strangers. Again.
I picture myself at the airport on the phone with you begging & pleading & crying out loud for you. I knew you couldnt come rescue me like you had so many times before. And I got on that plane. As the plane took off all the sound drowned out my sobs for you.
And then I was gone again.
