Theme – A World Without War?

Q. Do you think it will ever be possible for humankind to exist without war?

A. In short, no.

To expound upon this, it is an aspect of human nature that is compounded by the nature of our world. How is that? Quite simple. For one, humans started out in survival situation. That, coupled with instinct, was the start of humanity’s drive to survive and strike out against threats to that survival.

This could have been alleviated if this was a paradise world where all resources were equally spread across the surface and all cultures developed similarly and at the same pace. This too didn’t happen, which creates discrepancies in what one community/culture has when contrasted with another.

This is what started trade. And is what started wars to seize resources and baubles which are desired by the aggressors. From that point, there was no turning back. It has escalated to the current day where humans continue to battle for this, that or the other thing, as well as ideologies that have developed from past conflicts.

Global peace would have been a fluke under these conditions, given the base nature of humanity. This is not to say that we’re hopeless. We’ve gotten a bit better about things, though recent events have taken us back a few steps in my opinion. But global peace remains a future possibility. It is just a matter of when and how.

I believe we will see either the end of the world from our ways now. The lucky ones are the ones who go poof and the ones who are dead. I see that if we don’t get wise we will have a earth that will dump us slowly and painfully. I do dream that man will find the way and learn that what we can discover and do is a miracle just in the nanotechknowledge alone.

i think the human desire to beat the sh*t out of each other whilst bored and in need of entertainment has a lot to do with it as well. violence is not a new invention, and neither is finding it fun. i don’t think even the romans were responsible for thinking that one up. we aren’t a nice species, in many ways. if lions had made it to where we are, it would be very much the same. only hairier. ..

… what’s weird is the way that we are simultaneously horrified and enraptured with our violent nature at the same time. after all, isn’t the current gulf war a war for peace (apart from being a war about oil, of course)? we are never going to be peaceful, we’d get too bored.
