News – The Next Terror Attack
A suicide car bomb attack in Saudi Arabia killed up to fifty, with at least ten of those being Americans. No one has claimed responsibility, but Powell has pointed the finger at alQueda.
A possible hard line is laid down as Powell says in statement that the road map for Middle East peace won’t be rewritten or renegotiated Meanwhile Sharon says no dice ’til be talks to Bush. I get the distinct feeling Bush is going to cave to Sharon and we’ll see Palestinians making all the concessions. Or not because all that would happen in the case of more favoritism is to fall back into the useless circular fighting.
Jay Garner’s replacement, Paul Bremer, has arrived in Iraq. Will be do better than Garner? Time will tell.
The International Institute of Strategic Studies in London have asserted the opinion that Iraq won’t be the budding catalyst for democracy in the Middle East. Largely because the US isn’t willing to make a big investment in fostering it.
Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq are threatening war if the US or turkey moves to purge the area of its militants. Joy.
Another quaintly named individual on the US’ most wanted list surrendered as of late. The British-trained microbiologist Rihab Taha, dubbed Dr. Germ due to her work in Iraq’s Biological weapons program. The former chief of staff of the Iraqi armed forces, Ibrahim Ahmed Mohammed is also in custody.
Meanwhile Afghanistan remains far from stability and recent events see two peacekeepers shot.
Maybe Bush likes being a two trick pony? Or some conservatives only look for wars and tax cuts in a president. Eh, who knows. Here’s a Bushism for ya. If anything, one can often see fragments of truth in the Freudian slips of a public speaker. Personally, I wish sexual anatomy would show up more in Bush’s speeches than other types of slips.
Keith Payne is Rummy’s Dr. Strangelove. This man worries me. This is why: For 20 years before he came to the Pentagon at the start of the George W. Bush administration, Payne was at the forefront of a small group of think-tank mavensoutspoken but, at the time, marginalwho argued not only that nuclear weapons were usable, but that nuclear war was, in a meaningful sense, winnable. This is a dangerous man.
The International Papers have a Saddam sighting and a Ali Hassan al-Majid sighting. The Saddam sighting was supposedly by US forces, though there is no detail on why he wasn’t captured if they saw him. There is also quite a bit of speculation on the recent shakeup of personnel in Iraq. Today’s Papers has all leading off with the bombings in Riyadh. Various links outline the seeming lack of openness from Saudi officials. There are also bits on ‘Dr. Germ’, the Israeli/Palestinian situation, Iran and US talks and Afghanistan woes.
States in a budget crunch are finding SUVs to be undesirable in the face of cheaper sedans for official use.
Doom 3, the latest greatest masterpiece to come from Carmack and Id software, is likely to be the next benchmark of fame or shame between nVidia and ATI. And at the moment, nVidia seems to have the upper hand in performance. On another gaming front, the maker of an Xbox hacking book has self published his work as no professional publishers will touch it. Fear of Microsoft is a powerful thing.
An intriguing one here, researchers saying that genes play as big a role in the development of anorexia nervosa as environment. They haven’t pinpointed the genes themselves yet, but they seem quite certain. Support groups are cautious of course, but are watching the research with open minds.

This is brilliant; thank you for giving me a laugh through the amazing amount of fear I am feeling just now. It’s all good if incredibly uncomfortable.

RYN: Grey? You mean the font in the “Palette” entry? That’s the color I used for the page background last time. It’s not meant to be read, it’s for my own records of what I used for the last layout. 😉
