News – Roadmap Revisited

Middle East

The US finally publishes some sort of plan to deal with Israel and Palestine. It sets out a timetable of goals. Only question is, does the Bush team have the guts and savvy to get both sides to do what they want them to? As you might expect, I’m not real confident on that note. One need only look back to the failed ‘roadmap’ to peace to know why.

Yeah, much as I don’t like the prospect of some others taking power in Israel, Olmert will need a good ace to keep his place.

Al Jazeera journalist Howaida Taha is charged and sentenced in absentia, accused of harming Egypt’s national interests by fabricating video footage of police torture.

Africa

Sudan is intent on defying the warrants issued by the ICC. Sudan has also complained that the ICC has made no accusations on Darfur rebels.

Several influential Somalia countries are giving up their weapons as a show of good faith in the government. Previously they had their own private security forces to deal with the instability in them. This is a rather nice step to see taken.

Asia/Pacific

The US urges Taiwan to get serious on a defensive standpoint. Not a bad idea, considering how much China wants to keep hold of them.

Americas

The republican hopefuls have their first TV debate.

General

A study is seeking babies to test if early exposure to peanuts will help prevent peanut allergy. The babies they seek have eczema(egg allergy) which puts them at high risk for peanut allergy.

Security experts say some legitimate businesses are turning to cyber criminals to cripple the competition.

Musing the dark side of Spiderman 3. Sounds like there might be a few parts that aren’t so hot, but overall I’m looking forward tot his one.

The Blogs look at racial bias in the NBA, the spread of a code to break HD-DVD copyright protection and Time’s list of the 100 most influential people.

Today’s Papers has word out of Iraq that the number of attacks involving lethal weapons known as “explosively formed projectiles” increased last month to 65, a new part of a series about the origins of the money used by the Gates Foundation, the House of Representatives voting to expand the federal hate-crime law to people victimized for their gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability and more in the one page news.

In lieu of the usual, I’ve decided to hit up some clips of Kids in the Hall. A strange Canadian sketch group who had a show in TV with the same name. They do good work all in all. Especially the first.
