News – No One Wants Peace

I’ve come to a conclusion. None of our world leaders wants peace. They just want to play at it as a means to get a reason to attack and cause more disorder.

More bombings have damaged the potential for peace between Israel and Palestine yet again. These lunkheads in Hamas are starting to get on my nerves. They can’t hold their plans in check for a few weeks.. a month or two to see what might happen? They can always blow themselves up at a moment’s notice, after all. Washington is, of course, nudging Palestinian authorities to do something. Which they should. They should also be anticipating Sharon’s next dispatch of hit squads to invade and lay waste to another small part of Palestine, kill a few more Palestinians(militants and innocents) and start the cycle all over again. But they won’t do that. And with this sudden surge of bombings over the last week, terror alerts are flying around like they’re back in style. Umm.. no kidding, they might do it again? I thought this was the last time, honest. People are starting to make me sick again. Too many idiots everywhere.

A terror expert think that one of Osama’s bodyguards is the new head guy now after Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured. Personally, I look at it this way. If not him, someone else. Cutting the head off a well made terrorist organization only works so long before new blood steps out of the works.

Three US troops were killed and four injured in Iraq in three separate accidents on Saturday and Sunday. It’s inevitable that these things happen, but is no less sad.

Kurd Sellout Watch Day 75(Friday): The Kurds are justifiably annoyed that the draft resolution from the US says nothing at all about getting the 2.5 billion in aid money for Iraqi Kurdistan unfrozen in the Oil-for-Food program.

Peter McPherson, appointed last month to the top financial job at the U.S.-led civil administration running Iraq, is having problems backtracking Saddam’s financial dealings before the war. Looks like they can’t figure out how and where Saddam spent his money, which cuts off another possible means to discover if Iraq actually had a big WMD program.

A Council on Foreign Relations task force is releasing a report soon that faults Bush for failing to deal with North Korea seriously in the diplomatic arena, believing he should quickly get a short term agreement together to test the countries intentions. However the report is short on optimism and advises unilateral action should these matters fail. Meanwhile North Korea is promising ‘strong counteraction’ if Japan adjusts laws to limit remittances from North Koreans living in Japan.

Hamid Karzai has vowed to quit as president if he can’t get the unruly provinces of Afghanistan in line in the next few months. So now I’m wondering, who will replace him? Honestly, I don’t think he can do it, mostly because of the time he’s had already to do it, with lackluster results at best. I hope he manages it somehow, but I don’t hold out hope.

International Papers focuses on the growing unrest in Congo. The UN is already starting to form a mission to try and stave off the violence. Can the Bush Administration be trusted to offer a little assistance? IF not manpower, then perhaps equipment or general logistics? Information? Anything? Do they care? Today’s Papers has some whoppers. It covers the attacks in Israel of course. But it also notes a possibility that Saudi National Guard members might be selling arms to alQueda. Joy. And more. Lovely week it’s been.

A poor kid who had his private, amusing video posted online without permission is getting some love form fellow geeks. The gist of the story is true. We laugh, but many of us were just like him in the past, spazing out to our own fantasy of the moment. Be it air guitar, dancing when we shouldn’t or painfully terrible karaoke mimicking of our favorite artusts.

Matrix: Reloaded is getting respect from hackers who say Trinity’s hacking in the movie was accurate. Meanwhile, another bit of reviews. Personally, these critics don’t know what they’re looking at with regard to the Matrix.

Seems the Bush Administration is challenging the legitimacy of the Alien Tort Claims Act, which has been used for over 20 years to allow the victims of Human Rights Abuses to file claim against their abusers.

Rumsfeld is baffled by Bin Laden. Iraqis are trying to adjust to the new, less secure status of their country. A Times survey of 27 hospitals in Iraq places the war’s death toll to at least 1,700 with at least 8,000 wounded. IN addition undocumented deaths are thought to be at least int eh hundreds and could be as high as 1,000 according to Islamic burial societies and humanitarian groups that are trying to trace those missing in the conflict. A US military officer is making threats on NATO over the lawsuit against Tommy Franks. Typical.

The news is so depressing!

I think that in order to understand the Palestinians and Israelis you have to read the Old Testament. Both the Muslims and the Jews are Children of the Biblical Abraham. The Old Testament is loaded with violence and vengeance. The Psalms are full of laments and entreaties to God to smite enemies. It was Jesus who brought the message of love and peace and look what they did to him.

The WMD issue like the whereabouts of Saddam and bin Laden are no longer important to Bush. He secured the oil and bin Laden is a fly in his reelection ointment.

The Congo will not be stable anytime soon. It’s borders were thrown together by Europe, trapping in people who hate each other and separating them from their ancestral lands. Not all problems have viable solutions.
