News – Most Accidents Happen at Home

It holds true in houses and within the scope of a nation. We screw ourselves up more than others do from time to time. One we just accept while the other is less accepted.

Employee blunders and hardware and software failures are more of a worry for IT directors than the much-hyped threat of terrorism when it comes to disaster recovery planning, according to a new survey. – Silicon.com

We need to be spending most of our money here, not overseas.

On Bush and his news filters. Different filters for different messages. Personally, I don’t have much respect for a president who doesn’t stay in touch with how the rest of the country is receiving information and the opinions of those who write the news. Or maybe its just me who considers that as important as what he sees as the truth.

Ashcosft has said there was valuable progress in the CIA lean investigation. No actual information from us, just that placating gesture.

Gotta love Christian generals who portray the battle against terrorism as some God vs Satan BS. Maybe we should try to form our own country. America 2, sans the fundamentalist, magical world view BS. This time the sequel will be better than the original. 😉

The CIA and the Pentagon are at it again, squabbling over the possibility that Iraqi uranium was smuggled into Iran. No solid proof yet(like the uranium in question), but that’s par for the course. You know, our agencies might do a hell of a lot better if they stopped fighting like bastard children over an inheritance and just did their damn jobs. (End angry ranting mood) It sucks when people paid to protect you can’t grow up.

After the right sets up their own draft Hilary set up, they knock it down? Can we dub this stawman politics? Silly people.

Iraq

Three US military and two Iraqi police are dead after their Kerbala patrol was ambush from nearby rooftops. That brings the total of American dead to 100.

Islamic leaders are grumbling that Bush got his latest resolution backed. Though not many are predicting a vast surge of troops or money to match the tepid interest in the resolution which doesn’t change much from previous drafts. Spain has pledged 300 million so far.

The prospect of violence has forced the CPA to rethink the use of Turkish troops.

Britain is gong to help fund a Women’s Council for Iraq. That’s nice for long term goals, but I think that it’s more important to increase security to prevent them from getting raped in the short term.

Israel/Palestine

Surprising. Sharon has ruled out striking against Arafat. Of course, it did take him some time to finally rule it out. I wouldn’t trust that the option is truly dead yet.

Palestinian police have arrested three people and are searching for two others in relation to the Gaza bombing that killed three Americans. Note: The suspects were arrested. Not shot, not blown up by missiles or run over by bulldozers r whatever.

Afghanistan

The superintend and wardens of a Kandahar jail were arrested after Taliban detainees escaped their prison. They’re suspected of involvement with the escape.

Male birth control options are about to expend. Of course, we still have diseases to worry about.

PSA: On the ‘Geek Wars’

Due to the inability of me to reach several sites from work, I wasn’t able to get any pics before it become too late to keep trying. I’m really starting to get pissed at the DSL we have.. or perhaps the servers are the problem.

Sorry folks, I’ll try to get more tomorrow.

Rumsfeld also reminded reporters that Bush has said “the war on terrorism is not a war against a religion.” At least Rumsfeld got that right. I’m impressed.

If the government would not usurp so much of our freedoms, I would be all for them taking every reference to God out of every bit of goverment, from that general to the schools (which should have zero government involvement at all anyway.) But, it is not going to happen and govt and religion will continue to step all over each others toes as they “dance.’

Three cheers for the Palestinian police arresting terrorists. Best news of the week. I read the diplomats were there to award scholarships to Palestinian youth to study outside Palestine. The worst sort of convoy to attack. They were only trying to educate and build understanding.
