Iraq
Two car bombs kill 13 Iraqis and a US soldier(Some say 14 Iraqis) prior to an expected vote today on the new Iraq resolution. France has pledged to back the resolution as changes were made to address their concerns.
Bremer signed an order stating that members of illegal militias won’t be able to run for office in Iraq for three years after leaving such organizations. I guess Sadr won’t be able to run, even if he wanted to.
Israel/Palestine
An Israeli airstike into Lebanon Monday was a warning that attacks from Lebanese soil won’t be tolerated. The strike as in retaliation for rocket fire at an Israeli navy ship in the Mediterranean earlier that day.
Israel is planning to shut down the Erez industrial zone on it’s border with Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians work. No date has been given for the possible closure.
It’s been quite a turn for Sharon. From standing to give no settlement up to this now, where he has a passed plan for dismantling all of the ones on Gaza.
Italy
Rabei Osman Sayed Ahmed(AKA Mohamed the Egyptian) has been arrested in Italy and is believed to be the mastermind behind the Madrid bombings.
US

Five Palestinian brothers(Bayan Elashi, Ghassan Elashi, Basman Elashi, Hazim Elashi and Ihsan Elashyi) are charged in Texas with aiding Hamas and illegally selling low-grade computer equipment to nations the United States considers supporters of terrorism. The defense says the case is being pursued by overzealous Justice Department officials targeting Muslim men with ties to the Middle East.
Mathew Staver, head of the Liberty Counsel, wants a Massachusetts appeals court to put the state’s Supreme Court decision on gay marriage on hold until voters decide the issue.

RE the Christian diet. My wife’s gradfather had a book from the 1950’s called “None of these Diseases”. The title is from an Old Testament Bible passage that promises that Israel would suffer from “none of these diseases” if they followed the law. There is some good dietary advice in the Bible, but it is certainly not enough to build a scientific diet upon.
