Music – Ren’s Tracks: Evanescence
A new group, largely a blind shot for me. I’d not heard any of their stuff before. A friend got a CD and raved, so I decided to plunk down some and take a look.
Another good choice.
They have good variety, with power and emotion mixed in their varied tracks on the CD Fallen. I like variety and the main vocalist is a delight to listen to.
Hello is a soft one. Just the main vocalist with a melancholy accompaniment of piano as she gently sings each line. For some reason it intrigues me. Beyond the typical visions of character association that come with most tracks I listen to. 😉
Hello
Playground school bell rings again
Rain clouds come to play again
Has no one told you she’s not breathing?
Hello I’m your mind giving you someone to talk to
Hello
If I smile and don’t believe
Soon I know I’ll wake from this dream
Don’t try to fix me I’m not broken
Hello I’m the lie living for you so you can hide
Don’t cry
Suddenly I know I’m not sleeping
Hello I’m still here
All that’s left of yesterday

Going Under sounds, to me, as a narrow eyed introspective rebellion. Breaking from the pattern, a downward spiral that is resisted. A solemn promise to break free despite the tide that pulls and tugs. It makes me smile, but I’ve always been of the growly sort, so I can link with this one pretty well.
Going Under
Now i will tell you what I’ve done for you
50 thousand tears I’ve cried
Screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won’t hear me
Don’t want your hand this time I’ll save myself
Maybe I’ll wake up for once
Not tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I’d reached the bottom
I’m dying again
I’m going under
Drowning in you
I’m falling forever
I’ve got to break through
I’m going under
Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
So I don’t know what’s real and what’s not
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can’t trust myself anymore
I’m dying again
I’m going under
Drowning in you
I’m falling forever
I’ve got to break through
So go on and scream
Scream at me I’m so far away
I won’t be broken again
I’ve got to breathe I can’t keep going under
I’m dying again
I’m going under
Drowning in you
I’m falling forever
I’ve got to break through
I’m going under (x3)
*****
Without a doubt my favorite song, but not because of the message. The pure sense of synthesis in the multiple vocals and the rhythm never ceases to effect me on a level under conscious thought. It gives me shivers at times, as it progresses toward the end. An enjoyable listen.
Bring Me To Life
How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where Ive become so numb
Without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become
Now that I know what Im without
You can’t just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become
(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)
Frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead
All this time I can’t believe I couldn’t see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
Ive been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought without a voice without a soul
Don’t let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become
(Bring me to life)
Ive been living a lie, theres nothing inside
(Bring me to life)
they seem vaguely familiar. the lyrics definitely appeal to me – the kind of thing i like to use for my titles. i should investigate them further since i am in a musical mood at the moment.

I’ve only heard “Bring Me To Life” after this dude recommended it. That’s a damn good song. I’ll check out those other ones.

RYN: So in the initial looting you’re in favor of shooting the civilian looters? Grreeeeat. They don’t even do that in America as a policy.

Oh, yes. I write an entry about music, and how most rock these days has no appeal for me, and then I hear Evanescence…and fall in love. *L* Ah well. Fate likes to make me look like a doofass…
