Muse – Free Speech on Open Diary
I don’t know if my anonymous noter knows this, but this little fight has already been fought. I think the consensus was that there is no guarantee of Freedom of Speech on OD. It’s a private site, beholden to the rules set by the management. I’ve made a suggestion in the modification of those rules to them. It’s theirs to decide if the request will be implemented.
Besides, the change isn’t preventing anyone from writing as much as they want. Therefore someone’s right to freedom of writing twenty entries a day isn’t harmed. It just prevents the rude posting of most or all of them, pushing the entries set by others from being shoved off the list by the deluge.
I consider it a reasonable compromise with a nice, round number that should meet 99% of the needs of users on Open Diary. Of course, anyone opposed to the idea is free to send the OD staff their objections. I encourage it, in fact. That’s one reason I posted about it.
If you want perfect freedom to post, you’ll have to make your own site, which is an option open to all. Then one can set the rules, rather than abide by them.
I agree with you but I think 3 is and adequate number.

I believe in free speech, but I also think that a community such as ours has the right to set its own social rules. People abuse the Circles, and we really ought to be punishing those people by ignoring them. Instead, we give them attention, which is what they want. Therefore, we encourage this behavior.

I think I agree with Paula, 3 should be adequate. I have already written the DM pushing the concept. I did plug your idea on my site and urged folks to write the DM and request it or some modification.

This is a diary. Like any diary or journal we should be able to write as much as we need to. First thing is that we really are writing for our own needs and others can ignore us or not to suit themselves. In the circles maybe it is self promoting and that to can be ignored. What I want to know is why this bothers anybody else. Aren’t you the one at your own computer that makes your own choice?

I agree with Zombywoof’s note.

I’m late on this, but I just submitted a request to the DM as well. It really annoys me that diarists who want to share and discuss their own original thoughts have to plow through the NUMEROUS plagiarized entries submitted by one diarist in a day.
