Me – Snow Day

Yesterday afternoon and last night we got our first snow. It even stuck around. Looking outside last night, I could see the road was lightly dusted, though when I came out into the cool rain this morning, only the grass held on to the white stuff.

One amusing thought for me, as I listen to the radio and brushed my teeth, was the number of school closings. One fails to appreciate how skittish folk in our area are about snow and when to close down institutions.

I have an alternative prospective on this as I lived in Canada for two years and went through grades 10 and 11 while there. I never had a school day, even when the stellar Canadian snow removal service didn’t get the streets cleared to solid blacktop. The sort of stuff that has us worrying for our kids barely phased the folks in Ottawa, Ontario.

It’s a little amusing, really. Though personally I usually walked to school, being within a good walking distance of the place.

Personally, I’m hoping we don’t have the massive snow that came last year. Too much digging, way too much melt, I don’t want a flooded basement again. :p

I lived in FL alll my childhood and we had ONE snow day. 1989. Wasnt even an inch of snow and it didnt stick but ‘you can never be too safe’. We werent used to driving on ice or anything and some of our bridges were iced. I found it hilarious, esp after living in Missouri and Arkansas where I saw REAL snow.

Definitely, no flooding basements! That’s not cool.. but snow is fun sometimes 😉
