Me – Randomness for 4-26-2004
Poser
I’ve been making some headway on my next picture with Poser. I’m doing Dream, but am trying to find the right pose and lighting that will define the picture how I wish it to be. I’m still lost on Wish and Crystal Lattice, but I’m not giving up on them either.
Gaming
I had a good weekend for Unreal Tournament 2004. Three games of Mutant I played on Saturday ended with three #1 positions for me. Either I was in the zone that day or the other players sucked worse than I did. 😉 For those who don’t know, Mutant is an interesting game type. Basically, it starts out like any other deathmatch. A cluster of players set on a mission to take each other out.
Until the first frag(kill). The first one to kill another player becomes the Mutant. He gains a vague partial invisibility(not very effective), speed, higher jumps, berserk, increased damage, full health, armor and weapons. Of course, the downside is now you’re the only one that every other player in the game can damage. So while you’re trying to kill them to rack up points, they’re all trying to kill you. Whoever kills the current mutant becomes the next mutant and so on until the game is won(whoever reaches the point limit or if time runs out). A final aspect to this is the bottom feeder. Whoever has the lowest score is the bottom feeder. This one can hurt anyone in the game, but can’t be killed. It lets the poor players catch up to the pack and provides for another obstacle as it’s annoying when the bottom feeder homes in on you. But there is an indicator that helps you mark and keep clear of the bottom feeder.
All in all, a fun game type.
I’m annoyed, however, as one of my games is seriously busted. I bought No One Lives Forever 2 a while ago, during my Tysons Corner Adventure, but I haven’t been able to play it due to issues with Quicktime. The version I have on my computer screws the game up and I can’t downgrade it. Macplay, the company who ported the game, says they’re working with Apple and the developers on a fix, but it has been a while since the issue came up.
Currently, when I play it it screws up the custscenes and in game interactivity. I could likely play it in one way, but any NPC interaction would be hosed and with NOLF (1 & 2) the cutscenes and interaction are one of the biggest parts of the experience.
I think I need to fire off an email to Macplay and ask what the hold up is.

Subject: Your bits before the movie starts
Greetings.
I’m a moviegoer who would like to comment on the little spots that have been popping up before the start of movies that I’ve gone to see in the theater. There have been two variations with the faceless crew of movies having hteir say, describing a bit about their work before decrying piracy.
While I do agree that piracy is wrong and I pay cash money for my movie tickets and my DVDs to support the studios that make movies I like, I find it insulting that I have to listen to these spots before every movie that I pay to see. If you’re looking to educate people, you won’t do it by badgering the people who pay money to see movies. In my case, you’re just annoying the heck out of me, making me grumble every time I go to see a movie because I feel I’m being preached at despite that I do the right thing.
Personally, I’d prefer you take your spots to the TV screen as you’ll find more pirates watching TV than you will those few who visit tie movies. That way I can go to the movies without having to see these same insulting spots over and over and over and over and over again.
DarkRen sez: If they respond, you’ll know about it. But I don’t count on it. I hate those stupid spots. Even worse than the dumbass movietickets.com advertisements.
Exactly….those guys have no business putting their little ads before the movie starts. My friend, who downloads everything from movies to music off the internet, merely laughs at it. Now I don’t support piracy but they need to find a better outlet for their advertising.

I really don’t know what they hope to accomplish with those stupid ads.
Warning Comment
Having those ads run in movie theaters does seem like preaching to the choir.
