Me – Random Chatter for 2-20-2004

I’m waiting for my computer. This morning it still hasn’t left California.

I’m waiting for a nice 1.8 Ghz Dual processor G5 bearing Mac OSX 10.3 and a nice accelerator with 128 MB RAM.

When I get it, I’ll be a happy guy, playing Max Payne without worrying about turning the detail down to make sure it runs with an adequate lack of sluggishness. I’ll be able to make dynamic hair in Poser without having to deal with slow manipulation of the complex strands.

Estimated time of delivery is the 25th.

I hate waiting.

I’m also waiting for a game. World of Warcraft. I’ve never really considered getting an MMORPG before, but this one is starting to change my mind. Its still in beta, with a public beta starting very soon. The overall hope is for a release late this year. By that time my computer will be here and I’ll likely have succeeded in my general push to free up some of my online time.

Then comes time to make a choice. Buy the game and pay the subscription(which is why I want time free for it. If I’m paying to play, I want to get the most out of it) or to distribute my time in other ways. By and large, I’m quite bullish on this game from what I’ve seen. Looks to have something for everyone from casual gamers to the hardcore types. I’ll be linking up with my friend Luriena to tackle the world in a duo if I do decide to buy in. I’ll also have eyes out for good additions to the personal cadre.

I hope the game turns out to be what they promise. Blizzard is usually pretty good with delivering the goods, fortunately.

The question nags me.. what race shall I choose? What class? I think race is relatively easy. I’ll likely be human for my first character with Luri(other races used for other characters to experiment).

After that comes class. Warlock, Warrior, Mage, Paladin, Priest and Rogue are the choices.

All considered, I might go Paladin. Pros? #1. Healing. Healing is an absolute necessity to any adventuring party. #2. Divine Shield. A temporary shield that renders the Paladin impervious to damage for a time. #3. Big hammer. Nothing says laying down the smack like a big, pummeling hammer.

I think it’s a good first choice. A tank character that heals, allowing her more versatility in picking a character to compliment the tank.

One of the things I’m most interested in are the epic quests, called Life Quests in the game. What sort of quests are they? How can one make an interesting quest that is, in essence, the lifeuest of a character? What happens if you actually complete it? All these questions and more remain caught in mind. :p

I couldn’t use my Discover card today. I found that out initially when I bought my computer, which is unusually expensive for what I usually charge. I couldn’t use the card to get lunch later that weekend. Someone called and I thought this was resolved, but an attempt to charge today has not gone through, so it looks like I’ll have to do a call myself to get my card unstuck.

I like knowing they’re watching out for fraud, but this is cramping what style I have annoyingly. I was buying a good book to read too.

Bah.

Dude, come play Dragon’s Gate. It’s text based, but way cool.

Hm, but will people in this game actually RP? That’s been my biggest complaint with Dark Age of Camelot, and with my limited stint at EQ (blech!). NO ONE RP’s! I keep thinking of just running back to (text based) DragonRealms where I met Luri and J. Or alternately creating an alternate universe in T So, do they RP in WW?
