Log – Through Darkness to Illumination (3/6)

Contrary focuses on the person in front of her, hoping that no one notices.Just another conversation, after all. She keeps her posture relaxed, though a spot of annoyance rises in her manner, suspecting she’s being stared at during the silence. She watches the armored person carefully when he steps closer, forcing herself to not take a step back. “I’m nobody. I just want to go to the school house. Unfortunately, your sidewalk is the only way I can get there.”, she responds levelly, keeping her voice in a realm of neutrality. “If there was another way, I’t take it. But since there isn’t.. I can just be on my way and you won’t have to worry about me again.”

The figure chuckles again, quietly as he has been thus far. “If only things were so easy… so simple… look around you Ms. Nobody – “, he raises his left hand from the pocket it was held within and gestures at the area as a whole. All the while, though he keeps his eyes upon her, “Many wish to make their way to Haplo’s SchoolHouse. Many of those, decide against it, for it is is too dangerous. And of those that do try… how many do you think actually make it?”, He seems amused aby all of this. “You act as though you believe you are the first to ever come here and give me that line of bullshit.” He lowers his arm and pauses before finishing, “Those that do make it through, make it through because they paid to use our sidewalks and streets. Either through credits… or..”, he ‘hehs’ slightly looking at you, “.. through services.”

The curl of Contrary’s lip is hidden by her face mask, fortunately. But the ‘bite’ in her voice comes through loud and clear in her first response. “Typical male.” her voice remains on the low side. She doesn’t look away, straightening her posture slightly, a subtle emphasis of her height. “How much?”, she asks, seeming to cut through the BS and straight to the point. Though her clothing doesn’t really mark her ‘class’. She could be poor.. she could be rich. Her clothes are of common make. No noticeable expensive names to speak of.

“Typical male?” The figure tilts his head to one side, “Now look what you’ve done, you’ve gone and offended me.” He chuckles again, but it is severely short-lived. “Its a standard price Ms. Nobody.” He takes a step closer to you. “Five hundred credits and you can walk through here… mostly unharmed… for a month.” Another step towards you, so that he is within arms reach of you. The figure looks up at your mask silently awaiting your response.

Contrary does step back when you seek to get within reach of her. “Fine.” Her curt response. “Stay there.”, she directs, with a slight motion of her hand. She’ll take a few steps to the side, where the simple architecture of the building beside her offers a good spot to place the money. A small ledge that runs along the base, where solid concrete ends and brick begins up the rest of the wall. She knows to do this slowly, as she gets out a small pouch. She opens it and starts to rummage, the light plastic rattle of cred chips heard. Maybe she came expecting this?

Abaddon stops approaching when Contrary backs off. He’ll merely smirk beneaht his helmet. Silently, he will watch her remove the pouch and rummage for the credits. Acrossed the Barrens, the two helmetless Morlocks have come to notice this situation. Though, oddly, they do not move in to help, but instead just watch from where they are. The figure before you says nothing, awaiting for you to present the credits required. Both his hands are within his pockets again, and could be holding something – as the pockets appear to be rather large and able to hold a concealable weapon.

Contrary slips out five chips and sets them on the narrow ledge. Hard to see if they’re the right denomination or not, or to tell what else might be in there. She then slips the pouch back into her jacket and looks toward you. “There. Don’t spend it all in one place.”, she murmurs smoothly as she steps away from the ledge. She’ll start across the sidewalk, looking to skirt a path around the armored man and continue on her way. She’ll quickly notice the attention of the two across the street, but will trust them to stay over there, across the street.

Abaddon will allow her to continue on her journey. When she passes him, he reaches for the credits and counts them idly. Seeing they are the correct amount, he will drop them into his pocket. Speaking back to her without glancing, louder now, but still cold and unemotional, “Be careful Ms. Nobody. We are not the only danger in Dregtown.” With that, the figure slips into the building – literally – disappearing from sight other than infrared.

Contrary doesn’t notice as she keeps going, frowning faintly under her mask. She decides she can afford some extra speed, hastening her stride to carry her swiftly toward the north and her goal.

** Contrary makes her way north toward the old school and, after loitering around for several minutes, casing the joint, she enters and eventually makes her way to the rooftop **

** Begin location description **

Dregtown – Old School – Rooftop

The roof of the old school house is in good condition for a building of this age. In the far north-east corner there is a small greenhouse. On the south-east side is a small pigeon cage.

The room is very clean, and has been recently sweeped off. In the far south-west corner there is some sort of plain metal plate. The plate stands upright and has been put on rollers. It is about 7 ft by 7 ft and is about 2 inches think. From the looks of it, it is very solid. It appears to have a few divits in one side that has some sort of target painted on it.

The last thing of note on the roof is a large tarp that is set up. It seems to be hidding something, and it is tired down to ties that are bolted into the roof floor.

The when the Ley Streaker is here, it is underneath this tarp. The tarp is only abotu 10 ft high so as to hide the entire Ley Streaker from the air.

** End location description **

Dressed like a mechanic, Haplo is only partially visiable as he works on the Ley Streaker from under the protective tarp which covers it.
