Log – Dance Deliberation (2/2)
Cryghton leans his elbows back onto the bar and hold the glass in his tanned left hand. His eyes cross the dance floor slowly making their way towards the main entrance and those who have recently entered. His expression remains calm and open with an approachable demeanor.
Contrary slows considerably at a more open area along her path, turning to look at the dancers. She continues a slower walk, arms lifting to cross together low over her belly as she watches them. For a moment there’s a sense of yearning in her expression, lips pursed faintly. But he moment passes and she shakes her head faintly. Her arms relax and she faces forward again, completing her journey, distracted as she lays her heads onto the bar’s top.
Cryghton’s eyes linger on the being he has not encountered before for a few moments before he lifts the glass to his lips taking another sip of the cool fluid. His head tilts slightly back as he takes in a deep breath through his nose and seems to be genuinely relaxing.
Contrary is looking at the top of the bar, moments after she’s reached it. Her expression is one of light concentration as she smoothes her fingers over the well maintained surface. The bartender has to clear his throat twice before she looks up abruptly. She stares at him with non-comprehension for a few moments before she suddenly blurts out, “The usual..” Her voice trailing off into uncertainty.
“I wouldn’t know what that is, cause I’ve never seen you here before.”, the bartender responds to her.
Cryghton looks over at the odd behavior demonstrated by Contrary.. “Are you feeling alright?” He asks in a friendly voice. He continues to observe contrary for the moment until she responds.
“Yeah.. yeah..” The hasty response to Cryghton from Contrary, matching the hasty half glance given with it as she forcefully pulls herself together. Mostly, as she tries to reassert her confidence in full. “Sorry.. there was a place I used to go..”, she half explains in an attempted casual tone to the bartender. She glances up slightly toward the stock of the club, giving it a quick once over. “Just a Rebarm Special.”, she decides. A common, light alcohol mix. That gets her a nod, Contrary relaxing some when the bartender turns away to get it.
Cryghton offers Contrary a slight lopsided smile forming at the right corner of his mouth. “Okay.” He says in the same friendly voice before turning his attention back to the club where he once more observes the other patrons. He remains highly aware of the club and his immediate surroundings despite his otherwise relaxed outward appearance.
Contrary breathes out softly as she turns slowly around, placing her back to the bar. She lightly rubs one arm as she casts a furtive glance around the club itself. A flutter of uncertainty trying to press through again, but her resolve firms visibly, as a noticeable sway of her head builds, timed with the music that fills the club. The bartender taps her on the shoulder when he brings her the order, her momentary annoyance at the intrusion dissipating as she takes the glass for a quick swallow. That too seems to help her relax and calm down.
Cryghton also lifts his glass to his lips and sips once more before lowing it. He glances sideways towards Contrary before speaking.. “This music sounds good. It has a nice beat to it.” He says attempting to make conversation without forcing a response out of Contrary.
Contrary ends up with her back to the bar again, looking at her glass as she holds it in both hands. She glances toward Cryghton as he speaks, then again, actually looking at him for the first time. “Yeah.. I have this one.”, she responds, words slowed some and cautious. “Its good for dancing.” Obvious as the dancers cavort on the floor and she looks toward them again.
Cryghton smirks slightly and nods to Contrary’s statement. “Yes, that it is. Not that I have much time for dancing, but the song does allow for a good dance.” he says in a friendly voice.. “Are you a dancer?” he asks..
Contrary frowns slightly and shakes her head, glancing down at her glass again. “Don’t know how..” Something she seems displeased with. She covers that with another swallow and a glance away from Cryghton.
Cryghton looks back at the dancers and smirks.. “That is one of the great things about life.” He says looking back to contrary. “As long as you have it you have the time to learn new things like how to dance.” He pauses to look back at the dance floor.. “My mother taught me when I was a child. Never really understood the importance though.”
Contrary returns a more sidelong look as Cryghton first responds, her eyes straying forward again to watch the dancers. “It’s like.. communication..”, she starts in response, lightly toying with her glass in the meantime. “Like talking.. like singing. I watch them a lot.. in other places. Looks freeing.. relaxing sorta.” Then again she glances down a moment before taking another drink.
Cryghton nods to Contrary and then looks at her. “Yes in a way that is exactly what it is like. Sometimes on a stressful day I’ll stop in here and spend a couple minutes simply dancing. The music fills my spirit and the life of the song powers my body through the dance. When its over I feel renewed and the problems lessened. I never really understood the importance my mother placed on dancing, but it has its own importance to me. Some may thing me a little eccentric for walking in and dancing to one solng and then leaving, but who cares right?”
Contrary nods, not speaking immediately. “People care about different things.”, she says then. “Maybe.. maybe later I’ll learn to dance.” she rolls her shoulders in a faint shrug, her next tip of the glass finishing her special, the glass quietly deposited beside her on the bar.
Cryghton lifts his drink to his lips and finishes off his drink before placing it on the counter.. “Yes the future may hold many things including dance lessons.” He says in a friendly voice as he stands from his seat. “For now the immediate future holds work for me. If you will excuse me I have to get going. I hope you have a pleasent evening.”
“Yeah.. see ya.” Contrary responds quietly, again sounding distracted as she stares at the dancers once more. She leans her lower back close against the bar, arms lightly crossed over her belly, fingers relaxed.
