Some things remain the same
Even those things that are the same, I handle them differently now. Say by making annoyed facebook updates instead of freaking out.
It’s difficult to encompass the changes within myself in a few words, or even quite a lot of words. I think the most telling thing these days is that my friends are now comfortable saying things like ‘You know, dude, I’m really glad you’re not such a gigantic asshole any longer! It was so totally tedious!’ which really sums up the about-shift in my perspective on things and how people feel like it’s okay to point out how I was a fuck up now. Before, there was the risk of doing more harm than good, when I had certain blind spots that resisted all outside interference.
The greatest area of non-change, though, is that I still live at home. And so I still have to come up with methods of coping when I’m having an otherwise calm and reasonable conversation with my father, pleased with my ability to gloss quickly over his oblivious sexism, up until the point he comes out with ‘…yeah, and that’s when it’s tempting to hire someone to accost her in a dark alley and duff her up! Give HER some stress!’ and must swiftly find a way of disengaging myself before I start screaming and reaching for the nearest sharp instrument.
Still, I’m off to the Los Angeles and the San Francisco in a week or two, for Splendid Times with the Patrick. I am looking forward to showing him Linda and the places she and I visited when I was there last, to visiting new places and once again being surprised at my sudden disregard for strict time keeping (which, I mean, I never MANAGE to stick to times normally, but I feel the attendant stress, which will be blissfully absent) and happily unmaking solid plans at the drop of a hat in order to do something else.
This is the only drawback to Patrick’s desire to go canal boating with my parents one of these days – their insane and fun-destroying passion for KEEPING TO THE SCHEDULE. Schedules, I think it’s fair to say, are not a good way of having a holiday and are an excellent way of making everyone miserable.
Perhaps I will share some entertaining things in the future such as – pictures of cats! Choice quotes from emails/letters sent by my latest ex-boyfriend-cum-stalker (the police came round and everything! The police are crap, did you know!) The tale of the maggots in the office both figurative and literal! My thoughts on the lack of bum-coverings provided for lady blood elves in World of Warcraft! Other things that I have not thought of yet!
And I will round off this somewhat short and disjointed entry by saying ‘DAWWWWW, YOU GUISE, I FEEL SO WELCOMED BACK WHY HAVE YOU ALL MADE SO MANY ENTRIES IN THE PAST YEAR++ WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM SOME KIND OF READING MACHINE, GOD’.
