Maverick Effect (Chapter 2)

Maverick lay back on the couch on the green room. The show was over and he sat there in the dark and silence. He knew that he would have to make an appearance at the after party later but he really didn’t feel like it. For now though, he laid back knowing that no one woud disturb him. Lily would make sure of that. He thought of Lily for a few moments. Beautiful and innocent looking. She was usually dressed in a kind of punk school girl outfit. She looked basically like a typical groupie. But she was actually an undercover bodyguard. Trained in several martial arts, not to mention most types of weapons. The person that assumed she was just another not too bright groupie was making a really bad mistake. There was a light knock at the door. He knew who it was though.

“Come in.”

Angie walked in and sat on the floor next to the couch. He smiled at her and caressed her face softly. She leaned up and kissed him.

“Hey beautiful. What took you so long? Flirting with Lily first?”

Maverick grinned and winked at her.

Angie smiled and blushed.

“I was just talking to Lily for a bit. Wondering if she’s going to accompany us when we take our little weekend excursion.”

“So what did she say.”

“Yes, of course.”

“Do you mind though?”

“No, of course not. I like having Lily around.”

“Alright, I just wanted to make sure.”

“You know, we should get to the party.”

“I know, but in a little while. I just want to lie here for a bit. Come here beautiful.”

Angie slid up and lay on top of him. He kissed her and lay back, closing in his eyes.

In his mind he could hear his mantra as he strove for peace of mind ‘Patience the first virtue of tranquility…
