CoH CoS (Chapter 5)

Damien sat on the grass in the large field near his dorm room. He sat back against a tree, playing a gutiar and singing softly. Kit, Chica, Jenn, Starr, Dana, & Rachel sat or lay around him. Damien’s “daughter” Athena lay half asleep with her head on his leg. Athena was a thirteen year old girl from Japan. Her father had been Damien’s Sensi, Ryu Tanaka. Ryu had become sick with a terminal illness when Athena was 10 and had been afraid that she would be sent back by to Japan to live with his half-brother and his half-brother’s wife. His half-brother was a cruel man that had sold his own daughters to older men in marriage. Ruy knew his half-brother would not hestitate to do the same to her. So through the help of friends Ryu had been able to have Athena’s citizenship approved right after his death and have Damien lawfully appointed as her “father” in America. Athena usually lived back in Damien’s home town, an hour away, with a legal guardian, Rachael. But she came sometimes on weekends to spend time with him. Athena’s cabbit, Mizo, lay asleep on Athena’s stomach. Even as Damien continued playing the gutiar and singing, he heard footsteps coming from the path behind him. He recognized the aura of Jason, Chica’s boyfriend. Jason didn’t know about Chica’s recent show of love to Damien and he had no intentions of telling Jason either. Jason wasn’t exactly a prince of a guy and definitely didn’t treat Chica like a princess. Jason stopped behind them and after Damien remained playing the gutiar, pointedly igoroning him, he finally spoke.

“I’ve been looking for you Katie (Katie being Chica’s real name).” Jason said.

Slight irritation showed on his face.

“Why didn’t you call my cell?” Chica answered back, still lying on the grass.

The irritation on his face increased slightly, “I did…it was turned off.”

“Oh, I’m sorry…I forgot that I turned off.”

Damien noticed that she didn’t mention why she had turned off her cell in the first place. Let’s just say she was getting more glucose in her diet. Damien smirked to himself, but refrained from joining in the conversation.

“Are you ready to go back home though?” Jason asked persisting. Damien noted to himself that Jason had not greeted any of them, including Chica.

“Yes, I’m ready. Bye everyone.” She got up, brushed herself off, picked her backpack up and walked off with Jason.

After they had left, Jenn sat up and looked in their parting direction. “Why does she put up with his crap? She doesn’t even love him I bet.” After her first visit she had decided she liked it there and had transferred down to attend the university.

“Easy hun. She’s doing things on her own time. Sides, not everyone is as strong willed as you.” Damien replied with a playful smirk on his face.

She stuck her toungue out at him in reply.

Damien stopped playing the gutiar and sat up. “Who’s hungry?”

Everyone said they were.

“Alright, let me put my gutiar away and let’s go find some food.” Damien walked off to his dorm room with Athena. He opened the door and went over to the far wall where the gutiar case was, he put in it and closed up the case.

“Daddy?”

“What is it hun?”

He heard no reply and turned around to see Athena pointing. The Elysian crystal was glowing softly in its case. Damien swore softly in Japanese and walked over to it. He looked at the crystal, using his Gift to learn the message it gave.

“Chip is gonna come isn’t he?” Athena asked softly behind him.

Damien turned around and smiled at her. “Yeah, looks that way, he’ll probably have more information for us, but he won’t be here for at least three hours anyway. Let’s go eat.”

She smiled back at him and took his hand as they walked out of the room to join the others and go eat
