CoH CoS (Chapter 17)

Artemis settled herself on the grass and took a deep breath.

“Damien was born an Elysian. One of God’s own personal creations. Made the in highest level of heaven, Elysium. God created beings that were part human and part angelic. But even He had his problems. Humans were part of His power of creation. Angels were part of his essence itself. Trying to put the two together was a hard task in itself. He created many Elysians, but He was only able to create a handful of Elysians that were close to the perfect split between human and angelic essence. Damien is known to be the greatest of the Elysians.”

“Are Elysians the only ones that can use the Gift?” Honey asked softly.

“Not exactly, Elysians were sent to Earth from Elysium throughout time. Their children have the ability of the Gift imprinted within their own DNA. The amount of the Gift that manifests in the children of Elysians and the children of their children are all different. For instance, the son of an Elysian could be born with a forth of his parents’ power, but the grandson could be born with with as much as a third of his grandparents’ power. They could even be born with as much or greater power than the parent. Or they could be born with no ability in the Gift. Elysians have been sent throughout time to help humankind as evil as taken a greater and greater intrest in seeing about the fall of humankind. Each help in their own way, sometimes without their own knowlege.”

“Why had we not been more aware of Elysians in the past?”

“In many cases, Elysians themselves did not know of their origins. Often their memories did not stay intact on the trip from Elysium to Earth. But as time grew on and as evil finally manifested itself in a form that humankind was aware of, it was decided that Elysians were safe enough to expose themselves to help humankind in a greater way.”

“Is Damien a child of an Elysian? Is that why he didn’t know about his gift when I met him?”

“No…Damien is a full blooded Elysian. His memory was fragmented and his Gift inhibited when he was sent to Earth. Only in time did his Gift grow and as his Gift grew, his memory returned.”

“Do Elysians arrive on Earth at a certain age?”

“Not exactly. Elysians have a greater lifespan than humans…a gift from their angelic essence. Elysians can actually live for centuries in Elysium before they are sent to Earth. When they are sent to Earth, they undergo a process where their aging process is reversed and they are sent to a human mother who bears them like any child. I believe that I have talked long enough child. Any further questions would be better answered by Damien himself. And speaking of…”

“Good day to you ladies. I wished to know if you are up for some exercise Mistress.”

Artemis smiled slowly, “Why Knight Damien, are you challenging me to a little sparring match?”

“But of course. I thought we would show these young ones how things are done.”

“It would be my pleasure.”

As Honey watched Artemis and Damien walk off together toward the center of the field, she had many questions in her mind. But one among those was…how old was Damien anyway?”
