  20. Well it has been a few days since my last REAL entry. I guess I need to think of what to write to fill in this space.

I did not do much on Friday. We voted – but you knew that already. um lets see… Oh I played Star Wars Galaxies allot on Friday and Saturday. Well Saturday Night.

Saturday during the day Kal kept watch over Autumn Rose and I cleaned! Yep you read correctly. I got into a cleaning frenzy. EVERYTHING got washed in the kitchen including cabinets, floors, inside of the fridge and the freezer, as well as the stove. Then I tackled the living room and Autumn’s room.

Her room keeps getting messy from me leaving her clean laundry out. I don’t mind washing and drying laundry, but I cannot get to the folding and putting away stage. I am doing better.

I was going to cross Laundry off my list as I did 5 loads on Saturday, but I have three more to do tomorrow, two of adult and one of baby’s.

I am doing much more cooking at home. I do love to cook. I just wish I had more space. My Island has drop leaf ends on it, but the little wooden things they have to hold them up are not strong enough. I tried to put my food processor on the leaf once and the thing fell down and the food processor went crashing to the floor. Not fun since it had about 5 uncooked eggs in it. What I need is to find some strong metal hinge thingies that lock such as those found on folding tables or something.

I did the grocery shopping today. I went to 4 stores! Yep first stop was Oriental grocery for Panko Bread Crumbs, Udon noodles, Tonkatsu sauce and this instant onion soup Kal loves.

Then to Wal-Mart where I purchased the majority of the food except for what was on sale at Winn-Dixie, which happened to be my next stop. They had a 5 pound bag of Potatoes for 99cents. None of these stores had three of the things I needed: Corona and Boddingtons beer for Kal and a vanilla bean. More on that below. My last stop was Publix. The Publix is right by where they are building a Sonic! I cannot wait … back to Publix… anyhow they had the beer and the vanilla bean – The vanilla bean story is farther down the page — and I got me a Boars Head Italian Sub for lunch. OH and the best thing was at the check out at Publix – I GOT CARDED!

Well my list of things I want is getting longer. I just decided I want a Kitchen Aid counter top mixer. Not the low end one they sell at Wal-Mart either. I want the 525 watt professional one. I tried to make Crème-Brulee today and that standing there beating the egg yolks with a hand electric mixer for 5 minutes just about killed me. The torn disk in my back is acting up today.

I say tried to make Crème-Brulee because it did not go very well. First off I spent most of the morning grocery shopping and I ended up running around to all the grocery stores in town trying to find a vanilla bean. I finally found one at Publix. That sucker cost $8.99!!!! For ONE bean! So anyway – I followed the directions but they did not set up. I think that I may have not let them sit in the fridge long enough. They were pretty runny. LOL But OMG SO TASTY! Next time I make it I will let it sit in the fridge over night.

For those of you who do not know Crème-Brulee is a vanilla custard and when you go to serve it you sprinkle sugar on top and use a torch Most people use a cooking torch but I use a regular Burns-O-Matic propane torch. It was a ton cheaper) I did not take these two photos. Sorry I purchased it when I decided to make my own Honey Baked Ham for Christmas a couple of years ago. It works great! Plus I look cool when I use it! Heh-heh.

I also made Alton Brown’s recipe for meat loaf. It was really good but Kal wants me to use fewer carrots next time. LOL

Tomorrow night I am making Buttermilk Fried Chicken. It is Paula Deen’s recipe. Can you tell I LOVE Food network?? LOL

My favorite chefs are Alton Brown, of course, Paula Deen, Rachel Ray, and Sara Moulton. Sara has some real floofy fancy stuff that we really wouldn’t eat but some stuff is killer. Rachel has great quick meals from her 30 minute meals show. In fact on Friday we are having Tilapia with Tomatillos and Avocado filled with Maque Choux from her show – Kal won’t eat the Avocado part though. More Avocado for me! WOOT!

WOW my train of though just jumped the tracks! Oh yea – I was talking about what I did… Ha ha I started to tell you about Star Wars Galaxies… and totally changed topics over 3 times! I just decided not to tell you about SWG because you most likely are not interested unless you play. And I don’t want to bore you any more than you already are.

Hmmm, what else can I tell you? Not much. I may get out my camera during the day and take photos of me cooking. I have time lapse on my camera and I feel like playing with it a bit. You can watch me frying chicken. LOL

Whelp – there goes the old brain again. There is my cue to mosey off to bed before Mz. Thing wakes up for her middle of the night feeding.

More tomorrow or rather later today as it is after midnight here.

    First entry for Wednesday

I think for every inch of a vanilla bean, you can sub 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. I think… not sure… it’s been so long since I tried something like that. I’m rather inept when it comes to the kitchen *laffs*.

October 26, 2004

All this talk about food… *trots off to the kitchen*

Ohhh I love to cook too. I’ve never attempted Creme Brulee though. I’m scared of doing the blowtorch thingy. 😉 Boy, that is an expensive vanilla bean. We get about 4 here for that price, and I even find that very expensive!
