In My Own Little Corner
My little corner has a new address–er location in my house. I needed to have a space where I could shut myself away to write. So today I purchased a new-used executive desk chair and moved my desk into the corner of an unused/poorly used space in our house. We divided the room by putting up a piece of plywood. So far I have a desk, a chair, a bookcase, and a fan–since this room isn’t connected to the almost-whole house a/c.
Asher and Nelson are at a deomolition derby at the fairgrounds. It’s a Y-chromosome thing and I’m way okay with it because they left me home alone. Definitely loving that!
Before they left, Asher was having serious issues with my needing a quiet and separate space. He kept trying to talk me into allowing him to put his desk on the other side of the plywood wall. He already has his art desk in the family room where he can create and eat and watch tv. Now he thinks he needs a desk near me–with a computer and a place for his Leapster equipment. He’s such a little negotiator, but I was holding to no.
Right now I’m not feeling very comfortable in the space. I need to work on making it mine. Typically I have always went into overdrive with trinkets, and scads of dustcatchers. The more stuff the better. Right now there is nothing. Just my desk lamp and my laptop on the desk. I’m feeling a need to pare down–so I will add slowly I guess. I used to have so much on the desk and shelf before it became difficult to write and to focus. I’ve also been Queen of the Piles…not going to let that happen.
Asher isn’t the only one not getting this. (Insert giggle) Both the dogs have been coming in and out. Right now Spenser is honkered down under the desk, like he would if there was thunderstorm. Weird.
Well, I’m going to go read now. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.
***EDIT***
I’m such a ditz…I’d blame it on the heat, but things have cooled down here today. Anyway…big breath….drum roll:
-This week one of my devotions was accepted by Upper Room!!!!
-And today I got a call from a church about an hour away asking if I would be the speaker for their women’s banquet in late August/early September!!!!!!! She said she found my name on an online Christian Speakers list. I filled that four years ago!!! That’s the first call I’ve ever gotten. I’m so excited!!! (Can you tell, I’m used up three days quotas of exclamation marks on that one!) Wahoo!
Ok, now go enjoy your weekend. 🙂
Thats great about the women’s banquet!!! I can see why you are so excited!!~Yay for the new desk chair:) *hugs*

I used to read Upper Room. May have to check it out again. And congrats on the speaking engagement. The thought that popped thru my head about your private space is that MEN get dens and WOMEN get kitchens? Is that fair?
