Story behind the name…

Diary Name: I love lilacs. “Under the Lilac Tree” sounded so poetic and a place that seemed natural to want to be and write.
Location: Being a fan of just about everything Pooh, this seemed like a no-brainer.
Pen name: I have caught grief about this one on more than on occasion. Here’s the scoop…When I was in high school, the mother of one of my close friends was very influencial upon me. She was a woman with a tenacious faith. She had the sweetest spirit. She also had breast cancer and lost her battle in the fall of my senior year. Her name was Carol, but everyone called her Daisy.

When I was a freshman in college I took a writing course. We were encouraged to use a pen name so that we could exchange papers and anonymously write critiques for each other. I took Daisy as my first name. At the time I had been dating a young man whose last name everyone sort of assumed I would someday take as my own, Marty. Funny thing was I couldn’t see myself taking that last name because it’s my brother’s name. So any time someone would say Tina Marty, I would look for my sister Julie since that was what I grew up hearing my mother call out, “Tina, Marty, Julie, come for dinner” or whatever…So, I decided to put my middle name with it and daisymarie was born.

Little did I know that there is a pretty prolific porn star with the same name. I didn’t find that out until several years after using daisymarie and I liked it so much I decided she would have to change her name. “)

Did you ever read Under The Lilacs by Louisa May Alcott? I have my mom’s copy of the book from when she was a girl. It’s a lovely story. A porn star named daisymarie? That doesn’t seem like a very porn-star-ish name to me.

Of course she should change her name.
