Train for the Starting Line…
TRAIN FOR THE STARTING LINE
Sally Edwards, National Spokesperson, Danskin Women’s Triathlon Series
Imagine yourself running across the Finish Line of the Danskin Triathlon. The finisher’s medal is placed around your neck. There is a smile across your face wider than the finish banner and bigger than your imagination. Your friends and family are screaming with joy for your success. You feel so light you could almost do it again-just for that feeling. Put yourself in this picture. You are a triathlete.
Now that you know what finishing feels like, you know that it is worth doing what it takes to get there-and the operative word has five letters, is spelled like an iron horse, and just like you, it always stays on track-TRAIN. There is an optimum way to train for the Danskin.
CHOO-CHOO
That’s the sound of a train, and every single day between now and Race weekend, I want you to start your day with the sound, the feeling, and the desire to train. I want you to jump out of bed imagining the sound of the announcer saying your name as you run through the finish chute and look up at the clock with your finish time displayed on it. But, how do you stay on track and how do you train to get there? And what are you going to do for workouts, gear, support, and the big one-motivation.
Start by setting a goal, then build a training plan (and join a training program, too) around that specific goal. There will be challenges along the way: Time, self-confidence, equipment, work, family requirements-but we all know that you can put it together if you plan your training, and train your plan. Focus on your fitness training and it will become a lifestyle habit, possibly for the rest of your life.
Can you tell I’m excited about this event?!?!?
Just a tad! I’m excited too!! I’ve been looking into changing my gym membership to a facility that will have more to offer in the way of training for this type of event.
Warning Comment
naaaaaaaaah, couldn’t tell in the least. where’s the info for the 2003 series? AND when are we starting the swim training? I think I’m going to have to switch back to Weekends off if we start training now.
