Matters of the Heart…*updated*

My heart has been “fluttering” the last couple of days. Not racing…just an irregular beat pattern. Part of me knows that it’s probably not a major issue…part of me is scared that it’s going to be a big deal. Truth be told, I’ve always been worried about heart issues. Everyone tells me that I was fortunate to avoid serious health problems from weighing 300-400+ lbs for several years. My biggest fear is that I’d lose a massive amount of weight, only to have some dormant condition surface. The “youth theory” used to be comforting, but now I realize it’s a crock. Obesity isn’t an “old person” disease…and being 20-something doesn’t make it any less dangerous.

I have an appointment with my PCP later this afternoon. My mom has already given me a heads up on potential tests, but I’m still scared. I couldn’t even sleep last night. What if I do really have a condition and the doctor advises me to lighten my workouts? That could possibly eliminate future bike/triathlon events. Oy…I’m going to stop speculating and just face the music. 🙁

I’ll post an update later tonight…

-C

Update: Dr. P ordered an EKG and blood work. The EKG didn’t show any abnormalities, but he isn’t ruling anything out yet. He’ll have the blood results next week and will schedule additional tests, if needed. He did say that losing a major amount of weight can make underlying problems surface. That almost seems cruel doesn’t it? “Here’s your reward for losing nearly 200 lbs…new health issues!”  Everything else was great. BP was 118/76 and according to his chart, I’ve lost 50 lbs since my last visit in November 2002. Not too shabby. 🙂

I want to thank everyone for the support and kind words. You guys are truly with me in this journey…ups and downs. Love ya much…

You better update us!!! I’ll keep good thoughts coming your way.

May 25, 2004

Glad to see you’re getting checked. You had written about your busy work schedule. I can tell you my best friend went through some heart palpitations. Turned out it was a sign of stress during a hectic time at work.

May 25, 2004

*HUGS* Try to not worry, wait until you have the test results back.

May 25, 2004

I am glad you are going to your DR to have it checked out. Relax, surely everything is ok.

C, you are sooo taken care of by the Man upstairs. It’s silly for me to say not to worry, we are human and that is one of our favorite past times. I will say that you are a survivor. You haved kicked obesity in the butt and other obstacles that you have not shared with the rest of us. I believe in you and I love you Sister! Smooches…

I’ll be thinking about you – please tell us how it goes.

May 25, 2004

Sending good vibes your way. I hope it all goes well…and I’m glad you’re seeing the doctor early.

good luck, courtney.

Keep us posted. I will say a prayer for you. I went through all this a few weeks ago and several tests and cardiologist visits later they ruled it as stress and gave me medication. I am 36 and they said the same thing “you are too young for heart problems”. I have been overweight and obese for many years so, that eliminates the age factor in my book. I’m back working out and am losing lbs -JC

Good luck C!!! I’ll be keepin good thoughts! 🙂 RYN: correction, I prefer them OUT of the Wranglers! lol

Thanks for updating us. I’ve been thinking about ya all afternoon. I’m sure everything will turn out to be okay, maybe that fluttering had something to do wit the PBD at the gym from the other day? Wink wink.

May 25, 2004

I know exactly what you mean–I’ve lost about 50 lbs and all of the sudden, it appears that I may be developing problems with high blood pressure. Also stress-related. Ironically, the dr said, “Lose weight to control blood pressure.” Gr. Good luck.

May 25, 2004

you’ll be ok. i know you will. have faith…try not to worry!!

May 25, 2004

I hope it will be okay, I know how easy it is to just worry to death so try and relax.

May 25, 2004

Oh my gosh…now I am worried about you too. Please keep us updated.

glad the EKG was good. I’ll keep extra good thoughts for you on the blood work. 🙂 RYN: …sigh…it seems these days I am on a never ending quest for sexual satisfaction. Life was so much easier when I was a slut! LMAO!

May 25, 2004

Holy moly… I really hope you’re okay! :/ Yeah… how exactly does it work that losing weight can make other problems surface? That doesn’t make any sense! Arrgh.–

Goodness, Diva! I sure hope everything checks out ok. Next time your heart races, make sure the cause is a gorgeous PBD! My thoughts are with you!

May 25, 2004

Oh baby, my prayers and thoughts are with you. Nothing will be wrong, you’ll healthy as can be okay, think positive and nothing will happen… You and your weight loss ROCK!

May 25, 2004

I’ve got my fingers crossed that you get good news soon.

May 26, 2004

May 26, 2004

I just can’t imagine how impressed your doctor was with another 50 lbs. gone. 🙂 Still sending good thoughts your way. *HUGS*

I hope everything comes out fine for you. : )

I am sure you will be fine! I know how hard it can be to wait for test results though. Let us know how things go and I will keep you in my prayers! You are an inspiration! 🙂

Glad to hear the initial results were good. Try to relax (easier said then done I know). Take care and keep us posted. I did a treadmill “stress” test after the EKG was normal. (JC-Fort Worth)

May 26, 2004

Girl! I am putting on my prayer list. Stay positive and optimistic. Never claim anything. You’ve worked too hard and “this too shall pass”. Keep us posted. Smoochies!
