Is it really over? *updated*
Well, I’m back in the states. Not that I don’t love my country…but it really sucked to be bombarded with the usual political mayhem once we landed.
Want to know how in denial I was about ending my vacation? I just cut the resort bracelet off 10 minutes ago…and we got back last night! So sad…
Needless to say, I had a wonderful time. Departing was not the pain I assumed it would be. No hold up in Customs…hooray! Taking my seat on the plane was purely orgasmic. Seriously…I sat down and was actually comfortable in the ridiculously small seat. Silly Grin. I buckled the seat belt and had to pull on the strap to make it tighter. Big Toothy Grin. I lowered the meal tray and had a considerable gap between it and Budda Belly. Loud Giggle (that surely alerted the passengers around me…but what did I care?) Wow…flying without the worries of excess body weight is truly a blessing. I never felt that I was imposing on someone’s personal space. At the risk of sounding insensitive…I felt normal.
The flight was short (2 hours and some change) and drama-free. Well, the heavens opened as soon as the plane came to a halt. Monsoon rain…and of course, Cozumel arrivals are outside. We had a nice little run from the plane to the airport. LOL I can’t really complain, though. We avoided a lot of hassle because AA’s nonstop Dallas-Cozumel service has returned. Initially, we were going to have to fly into Cancun and take a ferry to Cozumel.
After a 20 minute cab ride (that rivaled NYC in the scary factor), we arrived at the resort. I was impressed. Villa setup….8 rooms in each villa. We were in a prime location: near the main bar and less than 20 feet from the beach. We got to’ up the first day. As you know, alcohol was one of my Lent sacrifices. LOL It’s amazing what a little hiatus can do to your tolerance. I had 2 ‘ritas on the rocks, 2 pina coladas, and a fuzzy navel within the first 2 hours. Everything was cool while laying on the beach. The problem was when I stood up and stumbled back towards the room. Forgot to mention that the resort has large iguanas roaming around. You know I freaked when I saw the first one, right? No one else seemed to be alarmed by the resort mascots…what happened to my liquid courage? I get back to the room and realize I haven’t called Ma to let her know I made it. Being drunk is the perfect time to call your Mommy from a foreign country. Trust me.
The Men…
Let me just say that Blessed Beauty was right…the Mexican men loved me. I was their statuesque bronzed goddess. LOL I need that type of attention 24/7, por favor.
The Drinks…
Ok…they are not stingy with the alcohol at all-inclusive resorts. We drank our weight and then some. FYI, Sangria+Sun will knock you on your ass.
The Food…
I ate whatever, whenever…and strangely enough, my pants are tight today. :p I knew I was going to be back to the “lifestyle” today, so I took full advantage. Why not? I refuse to eat salads on vacation! Food was very good…and plentiful. Every night they had a “midnight snack” set up in the piano bar. All-inclusive means I was obligated to eat, right?
The Men Part II…
Ok, who said it was ok for old white men to wear bikini bathing suits? You can swim in whatever you want…but no one wants to see gray hair sticking out of a Banana Hammock while trying to eat. Ugh…
The Mayans…
We took a very cool horseback tour through Mayan ruins. I haven’t been on a horse in 10 years. We rode for 3 hours and my inner thighs were feeling it the next day. That just tells me that I need more action in my life, ya know? My horse didn’t pass out when I got on, so I assume weight wasn’t an issue. 🙂
The Shopping…
We took a cab into downtown (the scooter rental idea was quickly scrapped after watching the Mexican driving practices). A friend told us to get to the shopping early before the cruise ship crowds started. Found some nice souvenirs…and a nice gift for my Mommy (I felt a tad bit guilty about vacationing over Mother’s Day weekend).
The Beach…
Simply gorgeous. I laid out for several hours daily. I got a nice tan…unfortunately it, along with my blood/alcohol level, will return to normal soon.
Well, that’s it for now. Today is my last day off, so I’m not going to spend it on the ‘puter. Vacation was a blast. I’m blessed to work in a field that allows me to travel with serious perks. My friend Red is turning 30 next August and plans are already in the works for Aruba. Woohoo!
I’ll post pics when I get them developed…Hope everyone has a great week!

P.S. Forgot to give a PF #1 update:
No Baby Yet! She’s back in the hospital today and I think they plan to induce more intensely, so hopefully I’ll have news later tonight or tomorrow. Please keep her in your thoughts…
Edit to add: PF #1 finally had the baby last night…c-section…over 9 lbs…what a linebacker. I’ll try to post a picture before he leaves with his new family. 🙂
Terrific when a vacation meets or exceeds expectations. Lovely visuals you gave except for the grey power banana hammock!

i loved cozumel – i’ve been twice, and i’m going again in a couple of weeks. ah, all-inclusive resorts – my main memories are food, alcohol and the beach all at the same time. any place where i can eat fresh salsa and chips, drink sangria and stare at the beach all at once is a-ok with me. glad you had fun! 🙂

Sounds like you had a fantastic time! I am jealous as it is cold and nasty here in Montana–blizzarding. Not in the valley, but I can see snow on the mountains through my window at work. I am thinking of PF#1. No matter how right you feel the decision, it is a tough one. Having lived through it, my thoughts and warm wishes are with her.

My prayers will be PF#1 and the daily reminder she will have to look at daily from the C-Section. A definite line backer for sure. Let her know what a couragous woman she is and how generous a gift she is giving to this family. Thanks for the update.
