Caleb’s First Class
Brought Caleb to Kindermusik for his trial class last Sat.
He liked to play with the balls, shakers and drums, but I realised again that he has his "own way" of playing with things and does not really like to follow instructions. It happens at home too, sometimes I will hold his hand and attempt to "teach" him to do certain things, but he’ll struggle free and do it his way. It’s like he will imitate our actions, but hates people to take his hand to do the action.
For example, when I told him to beat the drum, he actually flipped the drum over and tried to see wat was underneath *faintz*. The next drum that came along (we have to switch instruments with the neighbour after a while) has colourful patterns on its side, and he was quite fascinated with it and kept pointing at it to ask me to see (instead of carrying on to beat the drum, haha).
He was good at hi-5ing his classmates though (Grandma always does it with him at home…haha).
The class is for 0-18 months, realised that the older ones who’re already able to walk can get quite restless sometimes and tend to want to get up and walk around. That was what happened to Caleb too. The class had less movement than I expected, perhaps because most of the younger babies ain’t quite mobile yet.
Even though he quite enjoyed himself, we felt that the class wasn’t as helpful as I thought it would be. I mean, I could play the music and sing and dance with him at home. Not really worth it to pay for such classes at this point in time. We would probably try the class for 18 months and above when he’s a little older. For now, I would very much prefer to take the time to bring him to the beaches, parks and playgrounds instead, to let him walk around and explore.
But well, it was still a good experience to know how classes are conducted and I think he had fun interacting with his little classmates. =) Will probably look out for gd playgroups and classes and sign him up for them when he’s a little older….
