passive agressive Facebook posting

I pissed my BIL off today.

I posted a link to my FB page, geared the other women in my birthing advocate circle.  The link was to http://www.cesarean-art.com , which is the site of a woman who is dealing with her c-section by creating these incredibly moving (but fairly graphic and sometimes disturbing) art pieces (To my pregnant faves: I don’t recommend a visit unless you think you can handle that kind of imagery.)  The text I posted with the link was

Disturbing, but incredibly moving and *necessary* artwork, born from completely unnecessary trauma. Graphic artwork, possible triggers.

My (apparent) mistake was not inserting an "a" in front of "completely" show that it was a singly unnecessary trauma, not a universal.  My BIL apparently took it that I meant the later, and passively aggressively posted the following status update:

to all that think a cesarean isnt necessary, I almost lost my wife and son, not once but twice and it was a cesarean that saved their lives, praise God for the avalible surgery, futhermore any woman who has a cesarean is still a woman because they brought a child into the world. On a last note, it does not make you any… less of a Mother because, its how you raise them, not how you have them.

In the first place – I didn’t post the update for family.  I posted it so that other birth junkies in my circle would see it.  Second of all – second grade, much?  Why not just reply directly to my link post?  I certainly replied to his post.

Of course some cesareans are necessary! If any woman should need one, we should ALL be thankful to have that technology. But on the opposite side of that coin, I know women personally who have been cut open for their own Doctor’s convenience. Those women have a very hard time healing from such a traumatic experience where they have all their power taken away from them in the moments with they should feel the most empowered.

Hope you guys are weathering the snow well. Is Gavin feeling better?

So.

I feel like banging my head against a wall.  I’m so sick of these knee jerk emotional reactions: just because 1 cesarean was necessary and saved someone’s life (which I FULLY AGREE WITH), doesn’t mean they all are!  Hospitals that have 40% section rates are NOT doing what’s best for mothers and babies.

Okay.  Rant over.  You can return to your regularly scheduled programming now….

I think your original post was grammatically correct…and even if it wasn’t, it doesn’t excuse that your BIL totally missed the point and extrapolated an insult instead. I’m reposting that, by the way =)

haha, I don’t like people who assume that everything everyone says is an insult directed towards them. I’m sorry you have to put up with that sort in your family!

What a douchebag. That’s how I would have replied. I would have said, “You are a douchebag.” and that’s it. lol

I agree with you. I also think that many people who have had cesareans that think that they were necessary but they more than likely were not. It’s the reliance all of the unnecessary technology before the cesarean that usually makes it necessary. Of course, there are always the exceptions, but there are very few exceptions. This should be no offense to the mother. It has more to do…

…with the doctors and current normal birth practices in this country.

Ugh, I hate passive aggressiveness. And I totally agree with you. I took a childbirth in the US course in college and it was incredible how horrible our healthcare system can be for mothers.

ryn: You should eat Swiss chocolate or Belgian chocolate if you want yummy chocolate. I think English chocolate is better than Hershey’s but it isn’t as good as Swiss or Belgian chocolate. Belgium and Switzerland are chocolate kings!!
