Me likey the speedlight*
I bought a Nikon speedlight this week, the SB600, and even though it has a massive learning curve, I’m loving it and seeing a huge improvement in my exposures already. Really, the only complaint I have with it is the the manual is written completely counter-intuitively and assumes a lot of prior knowledge about lighting that I’m only a little vague on. I’m managing, thanks to Google and Wiki, and I don’t really mind the extra research. My indoor photography has already improved enough to have justified the purchase.
I’m supposed to be in class right now, but I turned the alarm off in my sleep. That ended up being a good thing, because I have a session that HAS to be finished today. It’s already a week late because of the week the kids and I had the flu. So, skipping class today will let me give it the attention it deserves and I can get it off to the client tonight without feeling like I rushed through it. I also want to get it done and out of the way before my next session on Sunday. My Sunday session is at 1:00, which would have left me plenty of time to post process on the same day, except I have a store meeting at work at 6 that evening. So, I’ll have to drive home (the session is in Huntington), and then back to work probably an hour or so later. FAIL.
I’ve been trying to figure out a time that I can round up everyone and go to my mom’s to take some actual family portraits of myself, Aaron and the kids, but it’s been cold lately. Hopefully the weather cooperates next week because the maple trees near Mom’s are so red and orange they look to be on fire and I would LOVE to use them as a backdrop.
I also bought a Nikon Coolpix this week so that I don’t have to drag the D60 to every single family event we have. Aaron also wanted a camera he could use, too. I’ll let him play around on the D60 a bit when I can supervise, but he’s not allowed to touch it when I’m not home. Lol. I have to say, after using the DSLR for over a year, the point and shoot is completely awkward. I can’t get used to there being a lag between pressing the shutter and the shutter actually firing, so all of the pics I’ve taken with it are crap.
Anyway, I need to get to work. Hopefully I can get my session wrapped up early in time for a long overdue photography post.
