A Voice for Ian – What Hep B Vax can do to a baby.

I had an entry all written up about what’s been going on in my life the past few days, but then I found this link, and I erased everything I wrote because this is more important.

Hepatits B is a disease that is transmitted through sharing dirty needles and having unprotected sex with infected persons.  Infants in America are routinely given the vaccine to Hepatitis B within 24 hours of birth, even though the mother can be tested prior to delivery, leaving a vaccine unnecessary for children who have uninfected mothers.  But, this test is rarely given, and most pregnant women don’t even know it is available.  I know I didn’t.

How many infants do you know shoot IV drugs?  How many are running around having unprotected sex?  The short answer is NONE.  And yet we still inject our precious little babies with this vaccine.

And before you tell me it’s harmless, I want you to go to this website:

thank you for posting this.

that’s incredibly sad. all 3 of my children were vaccinated. luckily none of them had any reactions to them whatsoever. they were very lucky. as this story shows, some are not. 🙁

Wow…I never knew….

July 25, 2009

I found you on the front page…there is way, way more info on this than what you have shared, including the fact that caregivers and anyone who comes in contact with your child can be asymptomatic for Hep B and still transmit it. Nonetheless, the story posted is incredibly sad. It’s important to note that no vaccine is without side effects. Some of them can even be catastrophic. The only safevaccine is the one not given. The benefits must outweigh the risks.

I’ve seen this before..it’s so heartbreaking.

I was deff. about to write ‘I’m sure it’s harmless,’ but then I saw the link you posted and decided to check it out. I think it was a great idea to post this and I only hope that people stop to read it.

We’re delaying that one until DD has to have it for school. Our doctor asked why and I said my 2 month old is not shooting up or sleeping around so i think she’s ok.

I had to leave the website… best friend’s baby brother died last week of meningitis. It’s hard not to wish that even at 8 months, he’d been vaccinated against it, but they don’t seem to do that for babies. He died so quickly. At the funeral, all I could think about was that had that happened to me, it would probably have taken at the very least, both my one and two year olds… Not tosay that babies SHOULD get THIS vaccination… it’s always just so hard to know. Just, if one’s baby died of a disease mom or dad had said no vaccine, wouldn’t mom or dad feel horrible about it? Eh, I don’t know. It was very hard attending the funeral of a baby, not something I EVER want to do again.

Ian’s parents state very clearly they are not against vaccines, but want parents to be educated and create their own timetable with their child’s doctor before having any vaccines administered. I think every parent (and those who want to be parents) should learn everything they can about the vaccines recommended for their children. There is a risk with any medication, and I am glad Ian’s parents are making sure no parent has to suffer as they did. My heart breaks for them, but I thank them for their compassion.

im def for not giving this vax at birth. its un-necessary to give that young. however, at my hospital the routine test for hep B IS done on mothers prentally. if they were positive the infant would need not only the vaccine but the immune globulin as well. so its not true that hep B testing is “rarely” done.

that is so sad 🙁 i don’t think it’s routine to vaccinate babys against hep b here. i wouldn’t know for sure, as i’ve not even thought about it, but i don’t think it is. xx

Thank Goodness I chose to NOT vaccinate my little one for Hep B for that very reason!

That was sad. Davina never got that shot until she was 1. It’s suggested and not required. I thought all hospitals gave you that info before they injected anything into your baby. Anyway, it’s sad but sadly nothing will be done because it was 1 child. Millions of babies get that shot and never suffer.

🙁 🙁 🙁

Oh, that was horrible. 🙁 I feel so sorry for that poor family.

RYN: That sucks. I gave birth in OH and because of her blood issue they didn’t give her anything. She was flown right to Pittsburgh PA. When I got to the different hospital, they took over and gave me all these papers. They won’t inject anything into your baby until you sign off on it. They even made me sign that they could give her my breastmilk through a syringe.

This reminds me of being laughed at by the pediatric staff at the hospital where Xander was born for refusing the Vitamin K injection…then they informed me that he would bleed to death if we so much as hit a speed bump on the drive home. It still makes me angry that as parents, we’re treated like monsters for making informed decisions instead of just doing as we’re told =(

July 26, 2009

Wow that was really sad. which makes me feel weird saying… ryn: yay! Also, weird, since I ordered mine and yours on the same day and I got my on Tuesday, I think. Maybe Wednesday.

Ryn: I shoot Nikon, and use anything from my 35mm f1.8, some 10-20, some 18-70mm and my 105mm f2.8 between me and my business partner, we have several lenses that we use. For most shots, its the 18-70mm, the 35mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.8 🙂

that poor sweet boy. 🙁
