a good start

I went grocery shopping this morning for the first time since I’ve contemplated a real change in my diet.  After really paying attention this week to how Chloe behaves when she’s not eating healthy food, I decided it was time to really buckle down and make the commitment.  We ALL need to be eating healthier.

So, I headed to Kroger, which is the most diverse grocery store in my area.   I did about 95% of my shopping in the produce section, with a little bit of dairy.  No meat (except some sushi for me), no breads, no junk food, and no high fructose corn syrup.  Most of what I bought was raw, vegan, and organic.  Normally I fill my freezer with convenience foods, but I only bought two frozen items: two packages of morningstar farms veggie burgers.  I spent about $120, which was really good considering I got the sushi, some raw honey, and a few things from the olive bar.

As soon as I finish up this entry, I’m going to clean out my fridge (which I forgot to do before I left), and I’m going to go through my pantry and clean out all of the processed/prepackaged foods I don’t think we’ll use in the next couple of weeks, and then I’m going to box all that up and take it over to my mom’s so family members can divvy it up between them.  I’ll take any leftovers to the food pantry.

I also need to dig my blender out and  clean it up.  I wonder – would a hand blender work for making smoothies?  Something to ponder.

Anyway, I’m off to clean up the kitchen, then I’m gonna reward myself with some sushi for lunch.

After I cleaned out my pantry I had three boxes of food to send to my mom’s.  And I was able to condense three cabinets full of food into just one.  Score for more kitchen space!

My sugar bottomed out earlier (I was an idiot and forgot to eat this morning), so I had a couple of tomato and cucumber wraps with some roasted red pepper hummus.  YUM.  Definitely did the trick and I felt better almost immediately.  I think tomorrow I’m going to have some of Pioneer Woman’s corn and avocado salsa.

When I took the food over to mom’s house earlier, i hopped on her scale to discover I’ve lost another four pounds.  Woohoo!

AND I photographed my first birth yesterday!  A beautiful 9 pound baby girl, born at home.  It was perfect.
