I should really be doing something productive, but it’s just so darn HOT that I can’t get motivated. It’s difficult to want to accomplish anything when I’m just sitting still and sweating. Gross. I can’t wait to get a window unit AC. Our central air is about to bite the dust (it’s a million years old), and I don’t think we’ll have the cash to replace it for awhile.
I’ve been spending a lot of time at the sewing machine in the past few days. I finally finished the pink and green quilt I started for Chloe a million years ago (or last summer…lol) and I sewed her a nice summer dress. My local JoAnn’s started selling PUL, so I picked up some of that and I’ve been slowly working my way toward making Ben some size large diapers. Most of his mediums still fit okay, but I’m having rise and leg gusset issues on some, so I figured it was time to replace them with new dipes. I’ve been using the Rita’s Rump Pocket pattern, only I modified it to have wider waist tabs and made it front-stuffable. I bought the La-Di-Da pattern today, and when I pick up more PUL, I’ll be trying it out. I have yet to finish one full diaper (blame the heat and the children…), because sewing the PUL requires a bit of concentration and I need my full attention on the task to keep from screwing it up. The stuff ain’t cheap.
I also managed to figure out what was wrong with my snap pliers. They kept smashing all of my snap studs, until I figured out I had the wrong size rod in the pliers. Oops. Anyway, they’re all fixed now, and just in time, because I can’t stand touchtape on diapers. Will still have some touchtape dipes, but Ben wriggles out of those like a greased pig, even when he’s wearing pants.
I’ve been more crafty that usual this week, I think because it’s helping me deal with the disappointment of Aaron not getting to keep his job. I had really thrown myself completely into the idea that he was working again and quite a bit of stress had disappeared off of my shoulders only to reappear again that evening. It was a pretty major shock to my system, and I’ve had to really work hard to get past it.
Have I mentioned lately that Ben is talking up a storm? His favorite words are "apple" and "stuck." If something won’t move, it’s stuck. If he wants to nurse, he pulls at my bra and says stuck. Lol. And if he’s hungry, he points to the fridge and says apple. The other day he picked up a bag of red potatoes and exclaimed, "Apples!!" He thought he’d hit the motherlode, and wasn’t too happy when I would let him chow down on raw potato.
Also, the boy just LOVES guns. Out of nowhere, he just loves them. He makes guns out of the most random crap: toy T-squares, his plush hammer…everything’s a gun. Not to mention all of Aaron’s nerf guns. The really hilarious part is that he actually holds them correctly, and makes the cocking noise, etc. It has to be a boy thing; because Chloe never showed any interest in turning toys into weapons.
Speaking of Chloe, we’re going to start "official" preschool in September. She’s been acting out a lot lately, and I think she would benefit from some structure in her daily routine, so I think we’re going to "schedule" school for a half hour a day three days a week.
Oooh…..Aaron’s mixing up some pina coladas. I think that’s my cue to shut down the computer!
