OB/Peds will be the death of me

I am so swamped with school. I’m in the middle of OB/Peds rotation and it will be the death of me. There is SO MUCH freaking material to learn. I struggled badly on the first test and got a 70. The next test (last Monday) I got a 90. Now I just have to pass the next two tests and I’m through this.

The clinical is short. I was in the Peds ER one night and loved it. The next night I was in the NICU and saw an echocardiogram on a newborn that had tetralogy of fallot. Basically the aorta is anterior causing a hole between the right and left ventricles with the possibility of shunting blood and bypassing the lungs. The baby was stable but will need corrective surgery at some point.

I don’t want to project into the future but I can’t wait for this program to be done. December can’t come fast enough, provided I pass all my classes. I want to get back to a normal life!

In other news:
The marriage still sucks.
The kids are doing well and getting big. E will be 14 in two weeks.
I can’t wait to see the new Star Trek and Superman movies.

There is a "Forgiveness Wall" at school where students can write who or what they forgive. Most of it is silly stuff and even my classmates were joking around about it. Someone said that we should write something serious. I took the pen and wrote, "I forgive my parents for giving me cancer with their second hand smoke." The sombered the mood and I walked away to head home.

NICU is an amazing place though…I’m SO grateful to the nurses in there, they were wonderful to my son and it definitely takes a strong person to handle babies who are premature or have problems right after birth.
