Nursing School – Here I come!

Dear Diary:
We got the welcome packet for nursing school. Several things have to be accomplished before January 9th…

1. Get malpractice insurance. I’ve applied online at NSO.com and it’s $37 per year for 1 mil/6mil.
2. Get a professional rescuer CPR card. Done. I have to have it for the ambulance.
3. Order books. Done. I did it yesterday and its running me about $500 for this semester.
4. Get your uniform. I will be going one day with a fellow student as the store is not in a good area.
5. Order your lab supplies. I should have done that last night, but I’ll do it tonight. I have to write a check and mail it in.
6. Get the health clearance from the Medical Center at school. Done. I did that yesterday.
7. We have to get a stethoscope, a watch with a second hand and bandage scissors. I have a stetho that I use on the ambulance (ultrascope) but with the strong recommendations to NOT tell the instructors I’m an EMT, I won’t bring that one to classes. It has an ambulance in the bell and its engraved. Maybe I’ll order another ultrascope just for school and clinical.  If there are any nurses out there, does what I’m saying make sense?

I’m going to get a head start on reading the books once they come. They say the first semester of nursing school is the hardest so reading the chapters early makes sense.

We have an orientation on January 18th. That is mandatory. Classes start on January 23rd.

I feel like Spongebob right now as I chant… "I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready"

Any nurses have thoughts on joining the National Student Nurse Association? Is it worth it?

Happy Holidays!
