Nursing Entrance Exam

Dear Diary:
I took the nursing school entrance exam (HESI) on Monday.  Going into the testing center was like going into Fort Knox. It would never occur to me to cheat on an exam but they must have had problems with the amount of security that is in place.  They assigned you a locker where you have to put everything. Watch, wallet, cell phone, keys and jackets / sweatshirts. Before you go into the room, they scan you with a metal detector and have you turn your pockets inside out. You have to keep your driver’s license with you and on the desk with your locker key at all times. If you leave the test to use the bathroom, they scan your fingerprint to make sure you are the same person returning to the test. You are also given two laminated papers and a dry erase marker to use as scrap paper for the math section.

The test was 6 sections: 
 – Math
 – Chemistry
 – Biology
 – Reading Comprehension
 – Vocabulary
 – English Grammar

It is all on the computer so you know your score as you pass each section.

My scores were:
 – Reading Comprehension – 98%
 – Grammar – 100%
 – Vocabular – 88%
 – Biology – 88%
 – Chemistry – 96%
 – Math – 88%

Cumulative Score: 93%

Last night I went onto the website for the testing agency and I was able to see a more comprehensive breakdown of my test results.

Out of the statisitics, what was most shocking to me was the reported score for the class average. My "class" (those taking the exam for my school to get into the program) has until 11/15 to take the test. The class average score is through last night and may change based on others taking the exam yet. The class average is 76%!  I am truly stunned. Here I was worrying that I would have to get in the mid-90s to have a hope to get into the program and I am 17 points higher than the average!

As a result, I’m feeling pretty confident that I am getting in. Supposedly we should know by Thanksgiving if we are in the program.
