How Quiet is the Midnight (Lord Soth’s Song)   [DragonLance]

(Writing Between the Lines Challenge)

Set aside the buried light of yesterday’s worries.
Close the door and lock it tightly behind you.
Grasp the key and throw it deeply into the darkened woods of your life.
Clear the slate for a new day is dawning.

of candle, torch, and rotting wood
And listen to the tune of night

Caught in your rising blood,
I hunger for the poison taste of you.
Like the heated blood of passion,

Your voice flows through my veins.
Damnation seems a meager payment
To drown in this hot, red flood.

How quiet is the midnight, love
That calls to you in slumber
Awakening you from torrid dreams
To which you wish surrender

How fierce is the longing, love
That stirs within your soul
Shredding your very essence
So severe the final toll

How hollow is the life, love
When you’re an empty shell
Which leaves you in confusion
Wondering just how you fell

How warm the winds where ravens fly

Where all the changing moonlight, love
Switching from dark to light
I watch your face
Holding hands we are still apart
Although I feel you squeeze my hand
We sit and are as silent as the sky
And as changeable as the sand

Pales in your fading eye

How loud your heart is calling love
How close the darkness at your breast
How hectic are the rivers, love,
Drawn through your dying wrist

And love, what heat your frail skin hides
as pure as salt, as sweet as death

And in the dark, the red moon rides
A slaying amongst the forty thieves
Red water rushes against the tides

A red sun rises with the morning light
Death and blood upon the brink
And the guilty fled into the night

The foxfire of your breath.
